Will this setup work w/out AFC?

I have a big 16g i am getting ready to install on 98 eclipse GST and my friend is telling me that if i use 510cc injectors and a walbro 255lph i wont need to use an AFC, is this setup possible without an AFC? Or is it better to get the 190lph with the 510cc injectors? I'm planning on running 18-20 psi of boost on the 16g.

You should use some sort of air/fuel converter or you WILL run rich. Especially with a 255lph. If you are not planning on going any higher in the turbo catagory then the 255 is not really needed. Just get a 190lph and do the re-wire. You need to be able to tune it to get the right type of power delivery.

Yes, you definitely need something to tune with if you are messing with larger injectors. AFC or GM MAF/MAFT 2.0+ are good products to start out with. If you go with the MAFT, you can vent your BOV to atmosphere if you use blow-through setup.

My friend had the same setup without the AFC and ran a 13.7 in the 1/4 mile.
If i get a MAFT, will i still need an AFC? I think it would be cheaper to just get an AFC than a MAFT. My friend will well me his from a VR-4 3000GT for $150.

At WOT you might be able to get away with it. Since you will be flowing alot of air compared to your t25 at the PSI.




I still do not recommend it. You have a nice setup going so far. Don't mess it up because you don't want to pay the $$ for a proper tuning tool. These cars (aswell as others) live because of a correct tune.

If you have the MAFT 2.0+ you will not need an AFC. With the AFC you can do 1% more fine tuning that with MAFT. I like the MAFT more because I was able to change my entire MAS from the severly restricted stock setup, and the ricer in me loves to vent the BOV!

You can get away with alot of things for a little bit, but if it is setup properly then you can do it right all the time.

You dont need an AFC, or the like, but it is a good idea because you can tune for alot of things like weather, alltitude, injectors, things like that. You will need a logger in any cause to see how the changes you are making are affecting your car.

The MAFT is a very nice tool but I dont feel that it tunes well enough to use it as your only tunning device. A MAFT with an AFC would be really nice. You can use the MAFT to get a general tune then fine tune with the AFC. For me good enough isnt the way I want my car to perform.
