Will this gasket leak?

I installed this SBR heat barrier gasket, and torqued the bolts to spec, and I just noticed this on the passengers side. I'm doing a complete rebuild, and I haven't started the car up yet. I'd hate to start it up and have a vacuum and boost leak. Does this happen normally and still seal?

I used copper spray on the gasket, was told by someone these seal good on their own, but some copper spray would help ensure.

i would say it would be fine because the flanges still press against each other and there's no way the gasket will deform like that inside of there. it could deform sideways, though. a boost leak test will tell you best now.

Run a boost leak test, if there is an issue with it please send me a PM and I will help resolve the issue.

I to this day still run the prototype on my car with no issues.

I wouldn't run my car with the gasket looking like that.. even if its sealed up or not.

I have a magnus one and it fits perfect. Yours may be defective, as in a bad cut.. and just simply missed by whatever (if any) quality control there is.

Goodluck.

I got one from slowboy also, and it didnt fit exactly perfect, so i had to oblong one of the holes a little bit and then it went on great. If you have problems, Oliver will make sure your taken care of

They will seal with around 12 ft/lbs of tq. Did you torque to OEM specs?

Yup, to OEM specs, I think the larger bolts were 14 ft/lbs.

I thought that a boost leak test didn't work after the TB in the intake mani?

I've seen a few OEM gaskets bend like this, but not as much.

The magnus one is more than twice the thickness, if it were to bend, then there is a problem. This is fairly flexible.

well i was in a same boat today. Installed a JMF SMIM and used a heat barrier gasket. I had the same gap on a pass side as you do now.Ran the car,and was loosing like 70% of power due boost leak. My FP Red was making strange sound,it felt like the turbine wheel will explode. And i couldn't reach 25psi of boost due the leak.I turned up the boost controller all the way up,and i was only gettin 17 psi. Ididn't used any copper spray. If you used, it would prob stop the leak a bit ,but just replace the gasket or make the holes bigger for the bolts like somebody said before. I just purchased a gasket from a diff place, and had no issues..... I did a boost leak, pumped 30psi into the system and it went to zero in like 2 sec....
And the flange wont seal, because the gasket is flat. both sides are flat. Oem one has some sealant applied to the side of a gasket where it meets up with the intake manifold, but like i said these plastic heat barrier gaskets doesnt have a coat along the flange, and the SMIM and the haad flanges are dead flat.so havin gap like that it will totally leak...

plastic can conform to a surface just like the sealant they use on an oem gasket, so you don't need to use copper spray. all it is is an adhesive with copper powder suspended in it. you could get the same results from hairspray or a cheaper spray adhesive.
