:talon: i have a 1996 eagle talon esi and ive been having nothing but problems  first the tranny goes out then a sensor that i havent even heard of goes out and now i have this problem

I can start the car run it for about 60 to 70 miles and it will shut off. When it dies the tach and spedometer go dead. It wont start at all you can turn the key the starter will kick in but the motor wont fire. If you wait and come back the next morning it will start right back up with no problem until you run it for 60 to 70 miles then it will do the same thing. :talon:

depends on what trans u got. if it is a auto, more than likely the trans is heating up wich causes everything else to heat up... try leting it sit for an hour or so and then try it it should start after about an hour

i can even drive it for a certain amount of miles shut it off go back to it and when it hits 60 to 70 miles it does the same thing

Lets start off with a list of everything that's been replaced on the car.
Next, when it shuts off what happens? Does it buck and shutter to a stop? Does it just die electrically?

I agree it sounds like heat is causing something to malfunction. When it dies after the 60-70 miles, do you get spark when you crank? Make sure you actually see it by removing a spark cable, sticking a screwdriver in it, and placing the screwdriver shank within 1/2" of engine metal when cranking (don't touch it while cranking).

If you don't get spark:
Suspect a ECU, faulty coil, or noise capacitor (in that order) which fail with heat. Open up ECU and check for leaking caps or rotten egg smell. You can also try a hair dryer or heat gun to help locate which of those 3 things it might be.

when it dies it just shuts off and the transmission and a crankshaft sensor has been replaced i will try the things you said and get back to you

is there anyone that is located in wisconsin that knows their stuff and possibly take a look and see what is really goin on

I would check the ecu for leaky caps. I live in Wisconsin and if you needed help I am just north of Milwaukee. let me know.

Have you ever seen the inside of a n/t ecu? There is no way any leaking caps could damage the circuit board.

I would check the coil pack. Ive seen something similar before and it was a faulty coil. It wouldnt do it at 60-70 miles everytime but it would die after about 30 minutes. Let the car cool completely(2-3 hours) and it would fire back up. As already stated, check the plug wires for spark next time it does it. The spark should be blueish-white in color. If it is orange, thats a good sign that the coil is the problem.

the car right now is an 1 and a half away sitting in a garage so when i get to it i will test it out and i will get back
