Will a stock evo 8 fmic core be good enough for a evo 3 16g?

I already have a stock evo 8 fmic core I bought cheap locally and a universal piping kit and was trying to figure out if the core would be fine if I ran a evo 3 16g on e85. I have heard the core really isn't that great but I figure I can fabricate my own kit with what I have for free but I don't want to waste my time if the core is not going to be good enough.

I can take my time working on the piping a little at a time if i run the 16g to my stock sidemount and keep boost at around 14-15psi I think. I know how to tig weld so I can just mock my piping up and cut each piece until I get a good fit and then weld the piping together. I think mounting the intercooler shouldn't be that bad because there are mounting tabs on the intercooler already.

should be fine until u really want to push every last bit out of power out of that 16g but at that point it really isnt worth it because u need a 600+ core just to handle all the heat

Normally I would say to just get another, larger intercooler. However, in this case, you should be able to push some decent numbers with it since you are running E85. The ethanol will help keep the charge temps cooler than gas and the Evo FMIC works alright. I would still recommend getting something larger, but if you are strapped for cash, it's still better than a SMIC in every way.

^ Agreed but in the evos in order to get the most out of the turbo, you def would need to go with a bigger intercooler, but if its cheap or already have it, should work fine

Doesnt Dejon Powerhouse make intercooler piping in a kit for the evo fmic to put in a 2g

they used to, but it's no longer listed, so it's most likely discontinued or special order only. the kit reportedly had sharp outlets, so I could see dejon seeing more value in selling a full kit with better piping that uses a now-cheap chinese core...
