Will a leaking water pump cause my car to overheat?

Cause my car to slighty overheat? Say normal temps on the factory guage is half way of the guage. Mine seems to sit just a hair above half way. Both of my fans work perfect. I have tested them. Now i know my water pump is leaking. But could it cause the temp to slightly rise? :talon:

yes i had this problem on my civic where it would be fine for a little and then start over heating. turns out the gasket was bad. i changed out the water pump and gasket and have had no problems since.

Good luck on your install. Just take your time installing it. I would recommend installing a new t-belt , tensioner, idler pulley and the tensioner pulley if you have not done so already. Just to let you know your very limited in space when removing bolts on the 2g.

A leaking water pump itself might not be the cause of your overheating.. You probably have air in the system now. when the air pocket reaches the sensor it shoots up cause it will respond differently to hot air.. it could also mean your pump shaft broke... and its not actually circulating water

Thanks for the info. i was planning on replacing my t-belt, tensioner, idler pulley, and the tensioner pulley, also the balance shaft belt and pulleys and there seals, also the alternator belt and power steering belt. just to be on the safe side. =D

Its not actually overheating just rising above the half way mark on the factory guage a hair or so. But thanks for the info:talon::)
