Will a evo 3 head work on my 6-bolts engine?

Hi I'm doing a rebuild and some guy is selling me an evo 3 head he said that the stock cams are a bit higher than my 1g head. but it will work or improve any? theres no info on the page

If its a true Evo III head than its basically a 2g core with a better valve train. It will fit but you have to widen the holes for the head studs.

Yes the cams are more aggressive on Evo III heads. I would check for authenticity first though. Receipts etc.

I still have to pull off my 2G head. But a preliminary look tells me they are very similar. But we will see in the future.

2g is better for low rpms power, 1g is good for high rpm power.
So, 2g is good for low end, 1g top end. The reason is because of the smaller size intake ports in the 2g. 1g has larger ports.

I believe the evo3 cams are the same part number as some of the later 1g cams.

Chew on this, especially coming from one of the most accomplished DSMers around.

I usually don't jump into threads that are as big of messes as this one, but I have a point to add.

The 2g head does NOT choke at 600hp. It also does not just accentuate midrange at the expense of top end. My race car has a 2g head on it, and with what I wouldn't call an aggressive port job. The port at the flange is stock size, untouched 2g and last season was on stock size valves. It makes about 1100hp at the crank and peak power with the 2.3l is at about 8400rpm. Yeah it is with big cams, but the head is still working in this rpm range.

I believe the 2g head is better overall than the 1g head. The port works well and it has better bracing and structure to keep head gaskets intact.
