Sounds like you have a broken center diff. Go here and look http://www.geocities.com/spencerhut/talon/center_differential_repair.htm

Hey im basically having the same problems with my car. same year and everything. but i dont have quite the same symtoms. if im driving in a straight line forward or reverse it doesnt do but it does if im making a turn forward or reverse and my car never slips. pain in the a$$ when it comes to trying to park at the mall or wherever. it does make more of a clicking noise but it doesnt really seem like its coming from the tranny, it seems like more from the back but not 100% sure. i will pay more attention to it when it does it the next time. I do know this tho. it never started it until after my t-case went, luckily the recal was never done so that didnt cost me anything, and if i take the driveshaft out.........it doesnt do it either. i reviewed the link that u posted and it sorta seems like the problem, i just would like to get more opinions bout it first. i have a good spare rear diff and a good tranny i could switch out or use for parts i just want to be sure i know which it is first. would hate to fix the one and it turn out to be the other

Well, Im not gonna swear that is your problem but mine sounded like it was coming from the rear also but it was the center diff. New spool and Im back in business(kicking @ss and taking names) ;)
