Generally when its cold (hasnt been warm yet) and my car hasnt ran for a few hours to overnight, when I start the car I get a wierd winding noise. kind of a WUB wub wub then its gone.

and ideas? I havent the slightest, thinking belts but it doesnt really sound like belts.

I dont completly understand, after you get done driving then turn the car off then turn it right back on u get the noise? Or when you drive for a long time then the next morning you go to start it up you get it? And is how long does the noise last?

a good majority of the time its when the car has not been drove for a little while (but I drive it everyday, so my examples are after work or in the morning)

I was trying to show some people yesterday and it would not do it since the engine was warm still at those times, so its only on cold starts.

The noise only lasts a second or two.

Hmmm, well many people complain about a starter(?) noise during cold starts. Lotsa threads about it. A mitsu mechanic told me it's "brake dust in the starter," which sounds kinda questionable to me.

Anyways, mine's been doing it since i bought it six years ago. Only happens when car is cold, AND when cold outside. It gives a kinda clunking chirp right after it fires up.

Some people say it's the sound of a failing starter, but if so, mine's been failing for six years now, LOL...

Not sure that's the same sound as yours...

a clunking chirp may kinda explain the noise....its really unique and hard to describe it.

that is probably it, my car seems to fall victom to the usuall DSM problems so I wouldnt doubt it. and being mine also does it on cold start/cold day, id say thats probably it.

thanks for the replies.

My car has a different sort of whine on a cold start. It kinda sounds like when you're in reverse gear, the engine just whines like that.

It's always done it though, so I never really worried about it, and it goes away as the car warms up.
