Wierd air filter install

So i ordered a cheapo air filter + maf adapter ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...&item=7955475666&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWN:IT ) for my talon a while ago and decided to just put it on today since itd only take a minute.

so I get the air box out and of coarse the bolts that went into the maf arent removable.... no big deal, went and spent 50 cents on some new ones.

I get back home, put the maf adapter on the maf, attach the bottom silver part with the coupler on it to the maf plate, but heres my issue:

Usually that plate is attached to the filter itself...on this it isnt. where it would connect there is a hard plastic substance. Is this just plastic or is it glue? im thinking its either hot glue and I can heat it up and it will hold itself together, or its just plastic and I put some industrial strength crap on there so it cant go anwhere.

Go figure I get problems on such a simple install

so the maf adapter plate has a substance going around the circular part you attach your filter too? I'm alittle confused with your post, Is this substance sticky if it is, I would personally clean that crap off because that would suck to have it get heated up and the possiblity to get sucked into your turbo. Ifyou can get another picture of this we may be able to help alittle better but I would clean any sticky stuff off of it because it should just be a piece of metal with nothing on it, if I'm readin this right.

Yea, I had trouble figuring that out as well. The filter adaptor should just bolt right up to the MAS with those 4 bolts, and it should all be dry.

Also, I had that adaptor for about a week till I actually looked at it and noticed that it covered up the sides of the MAS opening. I tossed it and got one that would let me put a filter as big as the MAS opening on there. Not sure if that bothers you or not, but it bugged me.

sorry if I explained bad, but I was talking about if you look at the item at the ebay link, its a metal peice on the bottom side of the filter, and its not attached to the filter.

but I kinda rigged something up, so far so good bov and everything definately sound louder, and I got quite a bit of power since the old box filter looked like the inside of a vacuum

Yeah, you get what you pay for by the way. I had the exact same setup from the same guy, and it broke on the way to texas. The plastic actually broke nad i had to use duct tape to hold the filter to the maf until a metal one came in. But im glad yo ufigured it out. This is deff a temporary mod if i were you. G oahead nad buy a metal adapter isntead of plastic. or else you might jus tbe broke in the middle of nowhere.q

its definately temporary but I really needed that air box out and I didnt want to get an intake pipe if im going to have to sell it later when I get a better turbo

You could buy the intake pipe you will want and use a reducer coupling for now.

yeah I got that same MAF adapter, The guy was nice becasue i already had the cone, he sold it to me for 7$ shipped, then i realized that it was only a 3" CONE adapter and i had a 4.25 " cone, then went to Home depot and got the 3-4" sewer drain pipe adapter and used that to link it all together, came out real nice, huge increase in BOV sound and intake is obv. a nice added sound. Some performance gain. can tell the plastic is going to break.

On a side note, i ordered the metal one first, and it didnt fit
