Hey guys so here is the deal. I went out to start my car this morning but my battery was dead. I pulled up my wife's car to jump it. I hooked up the jumper cables the proper way no backwards crap or anything. I then let it sit for about 5 minutes to charge the battery up in my eclipse.
After about 5 or so minutes I started to notice there was smoke coming from the alternator
I was like wtf is going on here.
So heres the back story my battery light was on last week and it turned out the alternator was bad. I then replaced the alternator with a known good one from a talon I have. The battery light was still on even after that so I was like wtf and started inspecting things and it turns out the alternator choke fuse thing was broken. I replaced that as well. I did run the car after everything was replaced and did not notice any smoke from the alternator.
I have not run the car in about 4 days so I went out this morning to start it and go to the store and it was dead so I was like wtf I must have something draining the battery
and that leads me to attempting to jump it and smoke from the alternator.
my question here is WTF could be wrong that the alternator would smoke.
no there is nothing leaking on the alternator no oil/coolant or anything
The alternator was smoking before I even started the car and got super hot to the touch.
Could this be the ASD relay or the voltage regulator inside the ecu? how can I test that?
