why do 1 gens sound sooo sweet

1g exhaust route helps too

my 3' 1g exhaust had litteraly 3 bends from turbo to muffler tip. straitest run muffler i've ever seen, i could drop a golf ball into the downpipe and it would roll out the muffler tip.

BTW, my 1g has the original exhaust. It is still in one piece also.

They may not sound like a weed whacker ... but they do sound horrible. Nobody is bashing the cars, we're just comparing how they sound.
 
My buddies stock STI sounds so fing badazz. I couldnt compare that to my Stock 1G TSI by no means. I do think 1Gs sound a little deeper and slightly throaty then 2G's. And I do believe it is mostly from the different stock turbo's. The 14B has a much bigger TH than the T-25 which lets more exhaust flow through it.

So STI's sound sweet stock. No one around here has a WRX with a full exhaust. I like in the sticks. When my buddy starts to build his STI I'm going to make some clips of his sound vs. my sound. No need to try and beat him heads up cause I'll win hands down. Auto-X I would be smashed though.
 
A buddy of mine had a 3" full system on his scooby w/perlin up pipe....nothing i have ever heard compares to it, not even ls1s......except my open downpipe muhahahahaha :D

im gonna diagreee with that, my 1g has original exhaust and it has not 1 spot of rust on it :)
 
my 90 doesnt sound all that nice with a 2.5" turbo back and an evo16g. Its not an even tone by anymeans. it sounds pretty good rippin on it (though really loud) but when im off the gas or not really steppin on it doesnt soudn great.

My 91 gsx is chest pounding at idle and WOT. It's very very throaty, even when I had it stock.

I wasn't bashing, merely saying there is a fundamental difference in the Boxer sound of a WRX. Did I suppress my southern slang enough for you to understand that? Or do I need to throw in a few "Kewl dude!" or "Far out man's" for you to comprehend?

Yea WRXs are wicked deep when they have big exhaust on them. But how can anyone compare an I4 with a HO4? They are so different it's like comparing with a rotary. WRXs sound phat and lopey from the factory :D
 
yeah, one of my buddies "ole mikey p. daddy D" has a nice blaze yellow subaru wrx (I dare anyone to try to find one for sale. very rare color) I love that car as much as mine. He has a full turbo-back exhaust w/ no cats and that thing sounds deep and throaty. very lopey though... rednecks around here like to compare the sound to one of their trucks. I beg to differ.... and also it sounds like there is a dentist drill in the A/C when you really get on it. :thumb:

No hard feelings. When I saw "weed whacker" and that you are from Alabama, I could not help myself. :)

BTW, I think anyone would take a weed whacker comparison the wrong way. Now an rx7 has the 2 stroke sound. But that is another topic.
 
My 1G (w/6-bolt) is stock at the moment and at idle it sounds idential to my 2G (when it was stock). Of course the exhaust routing is different as is the exhaust manifold/O2 housing, turbo so there will be your differences. In fact the only thing I noticed is that stock to stock, the 2G engine is much more responsive than the 1G which is due to the higher compression and lighter internals.

It was actually the local WRX enthusiasts who made that comparison. I always thought they sounded different with some peculiar quality I couldn't put my finger on until they said that. Early on, most of them were running either the GReddy or Invidia? exhaust and they would both give a peculiar whispy noise reminisenct of the sound the actual whip on a weedwhacker makes. Then later on the MT guys say the Evo MR sounds like a weedwacker. :rolleyes: And I'm assuming they mean the 2-stroke sound. Go figure.

emphasis on more not better then 2g heads, intake tracks would do little to exhaust pulse/noise. Have you ever set a tdo5 complete turbo next to a garret t25? youll notice that the tdo5 is kinda dwarfed in comparison to the t25. flows better and more , but in physical size they are smaller, for example my b16g was smaller then my old t25. just my .02cents

a bit off topic but when I putted the SSautochrome "header" on my car it sounded like an Honda :barf: ...had to take it off due to a strange cracking issue :shhh: ...now I have a ported evo 3 one and it sounds just like a DSM should and with full 3".

My friend's(girl) b/f has one IN BLAZE YELLOW, it sounds mean, but he has a full turboback also, he said it sounded like crap stock
