Could someone with a lot more DSM knowledge explain to me why the PTE 50 trim is not water cooled? This would mean that the oil must not only lubricate but also cool the trubo correct? Wouldn't this dramatically cut down on the life of the turbo and being able to use it for a daily driver? Any info about this would be greatly apprec.

Being water cooled only enhances the life of the turbo. With the newer designs of the bearings and better oil that is available; actually needing them to be water cooled isn't that important.

The water cooling mainly helps after the engine is shut off. It just acts as a heat sink for the CHRA (?) of the turbo.

It isn't detremental that the turbo doesn't have it. Most of the lager ones don't have it. Chances are, the engine will crap out before the turbo will if it isn't water cooled.
