Why am I asked if I have an aftermarket BOV when I try to buy an intake.

I've been looking around for an inake for my Spyder GS-T. I was looking at buying one from injen racing, but they asked me if I have a stock BOV or an aftermarket one. I plan on getting an aftermarket BOV in the near future, but I still don't know why it matterswhat kind of BOV you have. Also if I get a 1G BOV is that considered aftermarket because it didnt' come with the car? I've looked through the Newbie section and in the FAQ forum but I didn't see anything directly regarding this matter. Sorry if this question sounds stupid but I don't want to buy the wrong intake.

I believe they ask that because the intake may or man not have a bov recirculation port. Some aftermarket bov's cannot be recirculated. Look for an intake that has a spot for the recirculation hose if you are going to go with a 1g bov.

But which intake has the recirculation port the intake that is designed for an aftermarket BOV. Because alot of these places just show a picture of an intake you really can't say if that's the one they are going to send you, so I can't really look to see if the intake has the recircualtion port before I buy it.

I would just buy an intake from www.dejontool.com .

Their site has pix of all the intakes and has good customer service. Just avoid the hassle all together. The question injen should be asking you rather than "do you have an aftermarket BOV" should be "Will you be recirculating your BOV or venting?" because regardless of what brand the BOV is, if it can be recirc. then there is no difference. Save for minor placement issues but nothing a flexible hose can't fix.

Good luck.

Just specify that you want the intake pipe with the recirculation fitting when you order. Easy.

What excactly does venting mean. Do you mean do I want the Bov to vent into the atmosphere and make that noise? Or do I want it to "recirculate" into the intake/turbo or where ever it goes. If i'm buying an aftermarket Bov I most likely would want to vent the gas into the atmosphere so I could here it, I'm not looking to make tons of HP so I don't mind if I lose a little performance on the back end. I heard that venting your BOV actually makes you lose some performance, but that doesn't really bother me until I go to the track. Couldn't I buy an intake with the rec. port and just plug it up if I decide I want to "vent".

PS Thanks for all of the help :thumb:

Trust Defiant, PaleDSM, and others when they say to recirculate, they know what they're talking about on this ;) . If you insist on venting just keep in mind that each car is different, but some or all things that could likely happen are:
car idles rough and may stall at idle
when coming to a stop car may stall
car runs rich between shifts causing worse gas mileage/performance loss
You could always get the intake w/ the recirculation tube (w/ factory BOV) and cap it as you already suggested and find out for yourself. For more info on the subject (for/against), do a search on "venting". There are also several different parts that can allow you to "vent" properly, but you'll find that out if you decide to investigate things further :shhh::) .

You might not mind the loss of performance, but you probably will mind when you need to restart your car after it stalls twice a day.

After further consideration I've decided to recirculate..............And just so I'm sure before I order this. To recirculate I should order the intake that's made for the stock BOV and not the aftermarket BOV (even though I'll have one). Because the intake that's sold to be used with the stock BOV has that large recirculation port that connects to that piece of tubing between the intake port an the BOV, and this is the tube that does the recirculation, correct???? OMG

And if I was to by the intake made for the aftermarket BOV there wouldn't be a recirculation port because they assume I want to vent my BOV, correct???? OMG

haha twice a day if you're lucky. mine is about twice per 20 feet of driving. I need to get a recirc tube, the guy who had the car before me was venting.

Correctomundo, Fonzie.

yahh the idiot who had my car before had my BOV venting and as soon as I resurculated the valve my car drove 10x better! :thumb:

Thank you, I just had to be sure. Now one more question can I recirculate with the Turbo XS type "H" BOV, or do I have to buy I BOV like the turbo XS "race" design that is specifically made to only recircualte into the air intake?

Ok, im looking at getting the ingen intake as well, and had the same question. But i am wondering...

Can't I juts get the Ingen intake for "stock BOV" and then later, when i have the money, get the Greddy BOV that is especially made for the 95-99 mitsubishi eclipse (custom fit). As opposed to buying the universal Greddy BOV? That way i dont HAVE to get a new BOV b/c I got the intake for an afftermarket one?

Intake pipes and blow off valves are not tied together in any way. You can run any intake pipe you want with any recirculating bov you want. You can do either one and not the other as well.

What are you talking about? Thats factory setup, for a BOV to vent into the intake pipe.

Perhaps tied was not the correct word to use. I meant you can mix and match. Notice I said recirculating bov? :thumb:

Anyway what I was trying to ask before the thread got hijacked ;) was can you recirculate with a Turbo XS"Type H" BOV, I bought the adapter kit if that matters. I don't have an pictures because it hasn't arrived yet.

That's actually the "Race" version, it's the version I should get because it's made to reccur. I have to order from jcwhitney because they have that no payments for 3 months deal if you spend over $150. However, I don't know if the BOV I ordered is going to fit because they all had G1 next to them. They only sold adapters with a G2 next to them, so I'm hoping that the adpater will hook up to the BOV I ordered. I think it should considering alot of people run 1G Bov on there 2G cars anyway.
