Who still has a 7 bolt?

I'm on the 3rd motor for my 96 Talon with 129K on it. First one my brother blew a head gasket and then went, " oh you're supposed to stop driving when white smokes comes out of the engine." 2nd one was rebuilt from the 1st and ate a piece of the crank away where the thrust bearing is. This new one I got from a place that rebuilds engines from Japan that get rusted. Mike431635, you think you are a noob, I thought I had a 6 bolt in my 96 until I looked at the crank with my engine out of the car LOL. I'll be happy if it lasts me til February. I also have two pics of the crank where it got worn down and one of the bearing with the whole left side warped off it. They're on my gallery if anyone wants to see. One question I'd like to get answered, if I got a stroker kit for a 7bolt anyone think it would help avoid crankwalk since it pretty much replaces all internals on the bottom end?

33,000 on my 7... I did just do a rebuild due to a spun bearing. It's my opinion that CW is caused by the thrust washers. One of my washers was kind of worn down on the Pressure Plate side. When I ordered new bearings I got the full flanged ones and machined the bearing cap to accept them, so no more thrust washers. So far so good, but to early to really tell.

100k on my '98 7-bolt. Crank end play measured 0.005" at 95k when I put in my 2600.

I wasn't sure if i had a 6 or 7 bolt for sure until i put my clutch in, but i have a 7bolt and 142,100 that's the highest 7bolt milage dsm on this thread atleast. :thumb: When rebuild time comes, how extreme should i go for mid to low 12sec runs? I don't want to swap in a 6bolt i think my block will be fine once rebuilt.
Basic bolt on's-for now.

80000 on mine(lightly modded) but I just had a new crank and a complete bearing kit(mains, thrust, rod, etc) put in.
I took it in to check for crankwalk, because the clutch felt a little mushy after hard left turns. Needless to say, the thrust bearing wasn't to bad but the number 4 main bearing, lower half was scored down to the copper. The crank was also scored at that section....very bad.
The good part of this was, I had an extended warantee that fixed everything and my part of the bill was only $100:D (plust the cost of my new ACT clutch:thumb: )

Your pretty lucky you had that warrany, normaly at the dealer, we would charge 4hours labor to drop the oil pan and check for bottom end damage such as a spun rod bearing. :thumb:

OOPs, I stand corrected...hahahahah My total was $160
$100 for my warranty deductable and the rest was for dropping the pan. They gave me a huge discount :thumb:
I have a great Mitsu dealership here that I deal with.

I have a stock 7 bolt in my car. Its within specs and I plan to run it till it dies. I have 126K on it.

I had the stock 7 bolt (96k miles) till I decided that I Wanted more and had some spare time. now I have a 7 bolt 4g64 fully built. the 7 bolt 63 took a load of abuse from me. it has a super 20g act 2600 and usualy 20 lbs of boost, only drove it in the summer and it is on its 2nd tranny

Mines getting EVO B16g, FMIC, 550's, etc thrown at it veeery soon. We'll see how it holds up. But it seems to be strong.

Actually the 7 bolt came in after may of 92 to 99, thats just a correction from your previous statement. The 6 bolt came in the 90-92.5(may) cars, so some first gens have 7 bolts. Now ive heard that some early 95 talons had some 1st gen 7bolts. Is this true?

mines still running strong, 7 bolt, decently modded, 300whp for 50k miles

o ya and i defy odds, ACT2600 :]

I forgot to mention that my clutch start switch has been disabled since 70k miles. I've been running my green and 272s for about 20k miles now. :D

106k miles on a 7bolt bottom end. Though I did replace the pistons/rings/rod bearings. Head is a built 1G unit w/ 264/272 HKS. I've had an ACT2600 on it for the last 4000 miles or so.

I think that i actualy did read that on the VFAQ 100 ?'s

People saying stuff like "just had my crank endplay checked at ~0 and then I added an ACT 2600" and "I was showing copper but phew it was covered under warranty, so I added an ACT 2600 when they did the work"....wow. If you're aware of crankwalk and believe that it has something to do with the mods/oil/owner, and have no intention of getting a 6-bolt...then get the Centerforce clutch that doesn't put extreme pressure on the crank! If that's not enough grabbing power for you (which unless you're over 400whp it is), then you should already have swapped a built 6-bolt so you can run the ACT clutch and handle that kind of power. This and hearing people using $.79/quart 10w30 on their 2g turbo car (or any car for that matter) amazes the sh!t out of me. Seems like common sense to me to handle this delicate motor that is at the same time unbelievably strong, with some care. BTW my all stock 7-bolt is at 76k and not a damn thing has broken on my car of any kind in 2+ years of modded ownership.
