For a while now i've been comtemplating taking the power steering out of my 98 GSX. I was just wondering who has done it and if it's a good idea or not. Thanks in advance for your input:thumb:

i have powersteering in my 91 awd, i don't know but i do like the power steering, my boy had his out for like 2 years in his 92 awd but just recently put it back in , i guess it depends on the person, i mean if you decide to take it out you can always put it back in.:talon:

I do not have it on my 96 gst. Let me tell you how hard of a time i have had getting it to pass saftey here in utah!! I finally got it to pass today though :shhh: but i wouldnt recommend it if its a daily driver! you wont gain a whole lot of HP by removing it. And by the way i will be re-installing it soon so i dont have this problem passing safety again.

I did take mine out for weight and for more room in the engine bay.

The only problem i did not like with it was trying to turn the wheel when the car is not moving , but it was a good work out i liked it.

If you wanna find out take the belt off and then drive around, if you like it take it off if not put the belt back on.

right now my car is my dd. But hopefully soon i'll have another one for daily drivin. My power steering is being a bi*** right now and leaking all over hell so thats why i'm thinking about just ditching it. But thanks for your input guys

Dose any body know if the cyclinders will fill up with coolant after loosin the head bolts?

Are you in the right thread?

My power steering belt broke last winter in my GSX and I really hated the change. Made driving here miserable...even though i had the ice to help with some of the turning when still but when i bought my TSi and rebuilt it, I was very happy with having power steering again. I don't know how i went 6 months without it! guess i was just kind of lazy to replace the belt..oh right and broke :p. just my 02.

Did you figure out what part was leaking? My pump was messed up and it was leaking from there, but i went out and bought a new pump for like $100 at Oreilys.

well im in the process of taking power steering out in my project car and im going to reloom the hose back into the power steering rack this will make it slightly easier to turn. does anybody know the part # for a non-abs power steering block

I just loosen them antifreeze should freeze anyway i should be alright just askin for opions.

Are you sure your in the right thread??? WTF The topic is powersteering not "antifreeze should freeze anyway". Seriously, think about going back to high school for some english classes.

why would you remove it?These cars are going to be all butchered up and the unmolested ones will be worth the most!p/s MIGHT cost you 1-2 hp only when your turning the wheel and save oh 5 lbs.
Who is going to buy a car that has has all the options hacked off it?Let me guess, you took the a/c out and the abs.

Do yourself a favor and spend time upgrading your car,not making it junk!

I got my ps in the car, it was leaking two years ago but I went to the mitsu dealer and got me a powersteering pump seal kit and did it myself, but don't let the ps pump leak thou it will fubar the alt+ecu in some cases like in mine thou, gotta have the power steering thou! :thumb:

KEEP YOUR PS! I bought a awd with the power steering out it is a bi*** to turn unless you are going over 25mph. It straight up sucks! if you want to know what its like just take your belt off and see if you like it, but i can gurantee you wont!

I don't have it in mine. It's only hard to turn when you are completely stopped. It gets easier as soon as the car starts moving a little. I am by no means big either.

The only time I have driven a non PS dsm was a FWD that was completly stripped (weighed 2100) I found this car easy to drive but the light weight helped out a lot for low speed steering.

I don't know if it happens to 2g dsm, but with 1g the power steering fluid alway leak on the alternator destroying it. Without power steering isn't too bad once the car is moving and will be better on the on the 1/4 mile strip if your can't has a lot of power.

Don't exaggerate, it isn't to bad. Once it gets rolling 5 mph it is pretty easy but parallel parking maybe a problem.
