I was driving my car and there was a loud pop then white smoke and no boost. After extensive boost leaks test I noticed my 14b was gone. I decided to swap my 14b for a 16g thinking the turbo was blown, which it was, and now I'm still getting white smoke at WOT. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Probably should have searched first. The white exhaust smoke seems to be a often enough topic. But anyways, Are you loosing any coolant? If so I would probably recommend doing a compression check. You could have a blown head gasket or possibly a warped head. If you do some searching your bound to find something out or at least find some things you can try to identify with. But I would deff start with checking the coolant levels and a compression check. If both come back ok, then I would start doing some searching and seeing what others have done.

Ok, thanks I will do a compression test. The car seems to be running strong except for that smoke so I guess I will see.

I have to put an easy 20 miles on my car before the white smoke goes away... this is everyday. I believe my case is chalked up to condensation in the exhaust pipes. If you live in an aree where there is a lot of frost or condensation in the morning you might be having the same issue...

From my experience, White Smoke indicates oil burning due to Blown gasket, warped heads, etc. and that pop sounds doesn't seem good. I may be wrong.

well at least If the compression test comes back with strong numbers then there shouldn't be too many worries! After I posted I started looking on some of the forums that had been started and noticed some people had he issue pf changing turbos and blowing white smoke. So if the compression comes back good. take the car for a nice long cruise so the two of you can get to know each other a little better!!:D

^^what he said , but i hope you changed you oil when you installed your new turbo.

Thanks for the help guys I am at college right now so the compression test will have to wait a little while, but I will tell you the results when I get it done.

have you and ## buddy go the a auto parts store and borrow a compression checker and do a leakdown test, get that too the leakdown test tool. you and ## buddy go back home or whatever get some sockets. take the left front tire off and do the tests. or take it to a shop and have them do it. wont cost ya much. i had the same problem when i installed my 16G till everything got used to it and one morning the smoke went away.

Well I visited my brother this weekend and my dad brought up the old turbo. The exhaust turbine is gone and I'm sure somewhere in my catalytic converter. My dad also said it is blue smoke, not white and he thinks I might have scoured the piston wall with a a blown ring. Since I still haven't been home I have not done a compression test, but I will keep you all posted. If the block is salvageable I might go to a stroker kit and check out sheps for a tranny rebuild for future endeavors. Also, if anyone has a 90-94 awd they are looking to sell cheap that would make a good project let me know.
