hey, i'm getting white smoke only right after i start up my car(cold) after a min or 2, it clears up, and is fine. Also during that time, i get a very odd idle. it sounds almost like a stutterbox or a cammed v8. this also clears up within a minute or 2 of idling. its a brand new (well, 5k miles) engine. any ideas?

It's probibly oil or coolant seeping into your chambers while it sits. It could also be a few other things, but I dont belive it's anything to worry about.

According to your profile, I would assume that you are running either a cometic or equivilent steel hg and arp studs, right? If so, pull the vc and retorque the head. I am on my second cometic hg(replaced when engine was freshened up) and have had to retorque both. This is also with a decked block and machined head. Nothing to be concerned with but I would always reccomend retourqing a steel hg regardless of brand.
