This seems like the HG to me but the results of my search are making me secong guess myself. The car didn't seem to smoke to much when I started it to warm up before leaving work. But when i went back out to leave there was more smoke/steam. After seeing this I held my hand in front of the outlet for approx 30 sec. and sure enough it was all wet and black (carbon or unused fuel). I drove home and left the car run after I parked it. The smoke had disappeared and there was much less water coming out. I've been using or losing coolant for a while now but had ruled the headgasket out because of a good compression check and the lack of oil in my coolant and vice versa. Also the car had been overheating but stopped when I replaced the makeshift resevoir (catch can) with the OE bottle. The new bottle has a coolant level sensor so I know when its getting low and just add more. This happens every 2 or 3 days. Is it the head or head gasket? What else could cause this?

outlet of the muffler, and it is both. Theres a good bit of water, which contains unburnt fuel or carbon (black stuff). Sorry for the confusion.

thats what I thought but if you do some searching it seems relatively common/normal. Also the cap to my coolant resevoir is blowing off when Im driving. I thought maybe I hadnt put it on the whole way but its been off the last two times I checked after I made sure to close it tight.

I have a new cap, new fans, new tstat and a new radiator. ok I'll look up some instructions for a leakdown test. Another thing that I noticed was that the coolant was bubbling/boiling again when I stopped to check the coolant level. What could cause that to happen.

Bubbles in the overflow reservoir and/or coolant fill neck is a classic sign of HG failure. A rupture in the spacing from the water jacket to a cylinder will pressurize the coolant system but not necessarily allow transfer to the oil.
