Yes, whenever I am accelerating in my car there is a rather loud whistling noise, it seems as if it is coming from the back; however, I am not entirly sure. Does anyone ahve any ideas?

hence the whistle tip reference - whoooo whoooo

any damage to the exaust system? my friend hit his tail pipe of his POS on a curb, it bent the bottom of the tip up, and it sounded like a vietnamese prison camp ;)

No stereo...stock radio actually...as far as I know, there is no exhaust damage...there might be though, I guess I should check it out.

It is more like a whistling-squeek type sound...

All of the rotors are warped beyond all imagine...so I have just figured it was the calipers rubbing or something, the rotors are being replaced next week so if that is it then it should stop

Yea, im having serious noise coiming from somewher ein the trunk and I have upgraded speakers and two subs....anyway I can fix the damn noise?

maybe one of your rear bearings could be whining

Ya i would definatly check your rear wheel bearings, make sure you dont have any bent ones, did you hit any curbs latly?

Nope, no hitting of the curb. It was like that when i got it....but yeah, that makes sense...I guess that I will ahve to get that checked out, it is the most likely I would say. Thanks.

Actually, it sounds very much like a turbo...in fact, I get that quite often. "Is that a turbo?" So maybe it is a good thing! Of course, it only SOUNDS like a turbo...

LOL, I have the same problem with my lil 1.8. I once argued with a guy for 5 minutes that my car WASNT a turbo, and he wouldnt believe until I opened the hood and showed him, what a dumbass. Kinda funny that I wouldnt know my car was a turbo, eh?

I also have another weird rubbing-squeak type thing that I get in the rear when I wiggle my car from side to side, have no clue what that is.

How do you bend a bearing? Or am I thinking of the conventional ball bearing?

Ummm... no there not ball bearings, there grease packed. its what the wheel spins on, and if it gets bent, usually by hitting something, then it spins unevenly and wears unevenly. it will be like a rattleing sound or rumble sound at first, but eventually it turns into a whining sound. i bent my front left one when i slid off the road once on a solid sheet of ice. its about $300 to replace. it might have been bent by the person who owned it before you.

Yeah, some people are odd like that....yeah, I am beginning to think that the noise is from the clutch...well, do clutches make that sound/can they?

hey i think i have the same thing, yesterday me and my friend heard it and he said it sounded like a turbo, LOL. I have a system too and i'm not sure whereit is coming from, hope it's nothing bad, i kinda like the sound (and i'm still saving for turbo kit, the sound is a big tease)!

if u took out the air box and put in a cone air filter that could be the culprit. I put one on my car and whenever it gets over about 4500-5000 rpms it starts to whistle like crazy and sounds really cool!!

Well, it only happens while accelerating while the clutch is engagged and I am in gear...that is what makes me wonder...if that is the case then it couldn't be the intake, or exhaust could it?

Also something that maybe should be mentioned is the car is 100% stock except for the radio....

But yes, it is rather neat...it is fun to see people standing by the road looking at me drive by and wondering "is it a turbo, or is it not?" and then I punch it and it "spools up" and they are like "yeah, yeah, nice"....I know...I am a loser, oh well....

do you have stock exhaust? If so remove the heat sheild and take a peak. When I replaced my stock setup with my header I had this huge gaping hole in the manifold, it explained where I was getting a whislting noise, I had thought it was a belt so I replaced and retensioned with no sucess, and it only happened when I am throwing the throttle down. Put the new setup in and no more whistle
just my two cents

When i owned a NT eclipse i would always get a spooling noise when i accelerated with the air conditioning on... try it with and without

When I bought my eclipse it used to sound the same while accelerating..
It really reminded me of a turbo car :D Mut then I changed my stock cassette radio to a Sony MP3 CD unit and the sound disappeared.. Dont know why but that resolved everything.

Yeah, well some people say that it sounds like it is coming form the speakers....but I guess they looked at it and there is a hole in my down pipe so I am willing to bet that is the problem...but who knows, maybe it is coming form the speakers.

i noticed the same damn thing the other day on my way to the harrisburg show! i can really hear it in 1st and in 2nd, while accelerating. it sounds like a turbo.... kinda. cause when it happend i was shifting to 2nd and passing a talon. kinda funny cause the guy in the talon quick looked up and the guy sittin next to me said what the hell was that. did you turbo this thing?
damn i wish!
:dsm: :D
