whistle noise

there is a whistling noise coming from around where my turbo is but only when my foot is off the clutch can anyone help me with what this may be?

Wow, you're joking right?

That is the sound of your turbo spooling up, perfectly normal, one of my favorite sounds.

no no i know what the turbo spooling sounds like, its really high pitch wether it be at idle or crusing on the highway its only there if my foot is completely off the clutch

I think I have this to. It sounds like chirp chirp chirp. I think its normal. My car has done it for 3 years now.

Does it do it when your car is in neutral with your foot off the clutch?

It does it in neutral, and starts about 1-2 seconds after I take my foot off the clutch. Then it goes away if I push in the clutch again.

Well I am not trying to scare anybody but, about 3 years after my car started doing that, (aka. now) I have just diagnosed my turbo with in and out shaftplay, and blowing oil past the seals.

Now I am not sure if these two are linked or not, and I am guessing that they are not because my car was running fine with that noise for 3 years.

I've heard a chirping sound, kind of like an electronic beep, in some high mileage DSM's. I am not sure now, but at the time I heard it I thought it was related to the wastegate opening. Maybe a solenoid (BCS?) dying?

i have a whistle too. But only after I upgraded my UICP and got a 1G BOV.
and it only happens when i recirculate back to intake.
When im venting there is no whistle
(i know bad, but I cut the recirc. pipe/tube to short and now i need a replacement )

edit: also mine does it on idle, or justd riving, when ever you let of gass is goes "woooo"
When i rev'd with the throttle body i could hear it comming from the itake (through the cone filter)
if that means any thing..

Could be a manifold leak, my did the same thing and it was a exhaust manifold gasket.

This is off topic but your car is almost exactly like but mine is 95 tsi. I was thinking of going black on black or black on chrome. Just wondering what size are your rims?

19" Motegi FF7s. They're awesome wheels but I'm thinking of dropping down to 18's because of the really rough roads around here. If you're interested in them, I might sell them to you.

The 1g BOV is semi-notorious for sometimes making a whistle noise (similar to a tea-kettle whistle) under certain circumstances. Mine does it but I've gotten so used to it, I tune it out, just like my Walbro 190 whine. Mine doesn't whistle at idle, though.

As mentioned, another possibility for a "whistle" noise is possibly scraping compressor wheel fins.

A boost leak test probably wouldn't be out of the question, just in case.

This is why I was asking whether it only did it under load. I would think the pitch/sound would be quite different under load and not.

Also, if it does it in neutral, but not with the clutch pushed in it's probably not the wheels scraping (easy enough to check though).

I suppose the symptoms are pretty opposite of a bad throw out bearing...
