Hi I am new to this but I have a 97 Mit Spyder gst automatic tranny 130k and I have noticed that when the car slows down or when I put the brake on it makes this weird winning noise and a little when I accelerate at first. It sounds like its coming from the front end middle I believe. Any help would be great.
Thanks

PS Sorry if this is in the wrong area

Check the front wheel hub bearing, jack the car up and spin the front tire and listen for the noise. Now, with your hand at the 12 and 6 o'clock position push up on the tire, up and downward, you will feel the play when you do that it may tell you if its the outter or inner bearing.. if you never done that before then take it to a shop... Do the same thing to the other side, check it as well. Bearings will start to wear out at 100K, so be wise to check the rear ones too. If you don't know how to check the bearings take it to a shop and ask their opinion. Would start there first.

i have seen little clips that go where the break caliper connects, there for spacing the caliper to make it tight fit i have seen them break off the end and actually grind away the inside of the rim i know it sounds funny but try taking the wheels off the front and inspect for wear n tear.

Also Wanted to note it does it mostly when slowing down between 20 and 30 mph then goes away. Its also more of a whinnding noise. I honestly thought maybe tranny bc its louder with over drive on.

Next time you slow from 30-20 put the trans in "neutral" see if the noise goes away? If it doesn't go away then it's not your transmission. It will be brake pads, rotor or hub bearings, maybe even CV shaft. Bet you got a bearing "growl" is kinda the term some people to describe that kind of particular noise. Gear whine would be really high pitch you will know what it is when you go from 30-20 put the transmission in "N" and coast to a stop not using your brakes. It is process of elimination, go out and experiment. Come back and post your results.

Not only in that video he had bad bearings but he also had bad tie-rod ends too. See all that play when his hands were at the 3 and 9 o'clock position. So that car had 2 major problems in that front end. Bearings and tie-rod ends, check that wheel for both, just like in the video. Now, if he would have had a pry bar, he could have put the prybar under the tire and lift "upward" on it. That will indicate whether your ball joints/lower control arm bushings are worn or not. So to wrap things up, just by jacking up that one side you can check all the major suspension and steering components at the same time. In your test you do not want to find any "play" or "give". Everything must feel tight, not sloppy.

Took the car for a drive and sure enough it still made the noise when I put the car in Neutral. So Im gonna have the fiance look at it this weekend bc being a woman I have no Idea what to do LOL.
Thanks for all the info,
Brooklyn

Okay so I did take the car to Les schwab bc im leaving today and The guy there said he didnt find one thing and said it look really good.
