I agree.. my old roommate had a volvo wagon that looked identical to that.. and it had a turbo. Turbo = fun.

get the volvo. They tend to be a good bit more reliable, plus a lot of them also come with turbo engines. I've seen my fair share of volvos (no wagons though) and various autocross events and they have a good reputation for being safe.

Depends on how long you plan on keeping it and how often you drive it. If I was gonna keep it for a long time and drive it alot: The volvo.

If it was for more occasional use, or not my daily driver, the taurus.

The taurus is more simple, straight forward, probably easier to work on, and cheaper parts. Go easy on the tranny though.

The volvo being, more solid car, a little more luxury, and (maybe) power, assuming it's not a diesel, those are slow and ugly, too. Actually I think volvo wagons are kinda ugly.

Also what is the year and price? Taurus should be cheap to buy, which is a good thing, although the resell will be low.

If I would buy a wagon, I would consider the Mazda Protege, or the Subaru's. Only thing is they are kinda small.

What is your friend gonna use it for?

ID DEFINATLY PICK THE VOLVO i mean theres no comparison, you can fully modify it cuz i know the warranty has run out unlike the ford. and if its not what u wanted it to be, its just about ready for a demolition derby all it needs is some spray paint. But id definatly look into jacking those chrome rims off the ford if they fit, then it woiuld be hooked up to tha max

Go with the Volvo. I had to drive my parents taurus for 6 months while my car was down and that thing would just fall apart by the day. Door panels hanging off, interior lights would not shut off. Thing is an electrical nightmare. One time the headlights went on and would not go off no matter what, key out of ignition switch to off, nothing helped. The fix ended up being pulling the battery terminal off and putting back on and it never did it again and now only the daytime running lights work.

ya, I think he will go with the volvo.
He will only have it for 2-3 months tops because he is getting a 2g non-turbo eclipse gs.
He has both the volvo and the ford at the time because they are his parents cars but he will have to drive of them till he gets the eclipse.

when he gets the eclipse we will post pics.
