im planning on turboing my car really really soon. ive done research and the limit on stock internals on eclispes no-turbo are around 8 psi. im thinking of getting internals and building the block myself. i have come across wiseco and je piston. i wondering which compression ratio to get??what brand is better? as for the rods im thinking eagle rods. would i have to bore the block??or do the pistons just fit right in?? i just want to run 8 maybe more psi safetly enought that my engine can hold it. im also thinking cams too. thanks guy:D

8.8:1 Compression ratio is the normal choice when going turbo. As for a better brand, that's mostly a matter of opinion, some will say JE and some will say Wiseco. Eagle is the common choice for rods. It depends on the condition of your cylinder walls, whether you'll have to get it bored or not.
The stock block will actually hold 8psi just fine, and pretty reliably. I've been running 12psi on the stock block for nearly 10k miles now.

Even though this thread is titled "piston", :) Have you ever seen anyone that has broken the Eagle rods? I'm curious.

yep...I have. Totally my fault though. I wasnt monitoring knock and got a little boost crazy. That was a good 5 years ago now. I have learned my lesson.

We're talking about 420a's, just to clarify. I'm not sure if you had one before your 4g63, and that's the one you're refering to. I'm just wondering if someone has found a rough power mark to where the Eagles can't hold up.

hey thanks alot guys. great info. i had my head rebuilt probably about a year ago so i know its good. and my block is pretty good too. will the 8.8 :1 ratio pistons slide right in. im trying to do this all myself in my dads shop. an as for cams can i just install them myself? or will i need something else?

If you have a manual, and the mechanical skills required to do so, it's not that hard to do both by yourself. There are some specific tools you will need, it should go over all the specifics of that in your manual.

im pretty sure i can do it myself. i just want to know if i can just swap out the cams. or will i need valves and springs?. could it be that the valves open too much and hit the pistons???

No you will be fine BUT you cannot buy pistons until you find out if your cylinders need to be bored. You will need to bring the block to a machine shop in order to do that. They will tell you if it needs to be bored and what size pistons to get (standard, .020 etc.)

I'd highly recommend having a pair of adjustable cam gears if you intend on using the crower 2's with boost. You would want to reduce overlap once you boost the car. Otherwise, you ought to be good with them.

I believe Mark is using C2's with some overlap removed on his turbocar with good success..
