I have a palm IIIxe and I want to upgrade to something that can charge while the ignition is on. Color would be nice too but not making a choice on it. What is everyone using/recommend? Thanks,

Justin W

Here's something to think about... I just made a small circuit that connects to your car and powers your Palm while the car is on, that way you don't lose battery power. When you turn your car off, everything reverts back to the batteries so you can use the Palm when your car is off, yet you don't drain your car battery.

It'd be easy to retrofit it so it does all of those things, plus charge the batteries while the car is on too. Let me know what you think.

I used a new color Palm IIIc and picked up a cable of eBay that has both a serial and USB connection at the end. It also came with a USB to 12v cigarette adaptor to plug into my secondary 12v plug. It allowed for continuous charging/tuning.

That's interesting. Have you posted a Tech Article for this? I'd be interested in trying this out, myself.

Not yet. I'm developing it in conjunction with my OBD logging interface. Once I have a few more of the interfaces built, I'll put up a tech article about it.

Here's what the PCB for it looks like.

would you be interested in building one for me? or at least giving up the part numbers and such for me to build one? let me know asap as I have to go out today and get more AAA's. And I am assuming that I will be able to just use rechargeable AAA batteries in the palm right? thanks

these are the palms that have rechargeable batteries, palm IIIc, m125, m130, m500, m505, m515, and a few others that are used for datalogging.

^ It depends on the palm. I've never used a IIIx so I'm not sure, but my IIIc has a rechargeable cell in it; AAAs won't fit.

Correct, I designed the unit to work with Palms that use a +3.0V power supply (i.e. two AAAs). If yours doesn's use 3.0V, it won't work. PM me if you want one though, I'll be selling them as soon as I begin selling my dataloggers this weekend.
