im looking for an engine control system for my setup. its full built motor with sleeved cylinders you know the works. my goal is to push 30psi after break in which megasquirt system is best to achieve this with the least amount of problems?

I have only used 2.2 and now I'm building one with microsquirt any of them will do the trick with the right map but I here the new one is the easy to tune

If you have already spent plenty of money building your engine there is no point to be stingy on the engine management (imo one of the most important parts). I am currently running the 2.2 but it leaves much to be desired, and in all honesty I hardly trust it at the 7psi that I am running. Don't waste your time with a Megasquirt (even though it sounds appealing), go ahead and buy yourself a nice standalone from AEM or Haltech.

ECMLink is on cars out there running 1000hp without issues.

If you do not like ECMLink and want to run something else then I would also vote for AEM EMS.

I know that you said it is fully built, but are you considering driving this fully built car on the street sometimes? If you are, then I would recommend even more AGAINST megasquirt because of its poor table resolution. 15x15 is simply not enough to allow reliable driveability.

I dont know what you are talking about.. There are numerous people out there running MS with no issues including myself. There are alot of high HP fast quarter mile cars on MS. IMO they are pretty easy to tune if you have a decent idea of what you are doing.

They are very easy to tune. But you have to sacrifice resolution in certain areas if you want more resolution in a another area. I agree that power can be made with them, but chances are if you use it as a track car it won't have the best driveability characteristics. I guarantee that we know of plenty more applications that have made high power and torque figures with AEM and Haltech than with MS.

Ill agree the AEM and Haltech might be more commonly used but MS is by no means a bad system.

The OP only stated he wanted to run 30psi which is do-able with even a MAFT and eprom. For the average guy MS is more than adequate.

I'll agree that it may be adequate. I'm just saying that after investing so much money I would put more confidence in an AEM or Haltech system over a MS system from what I have experienced with MS. Just depends on how much trust you put in a $500 system over a $1500+ system

It doesnt matter what system you run. All that Matters is the Tune. No matter what you do if you tune it wrong on any system ## gonna get the same results. A blown Motor. I would and will. I have a MS2 system sittin around that im using on my Rx7. 83 with a 12A. If i trust my MS with a rare of a motor as a 12A id trust it with a 420A.

Most peoplel wont even come close to using the full potential of MS let alone AEM. I just dont see the point in paying that much for a standalone when we have ECMlink and MS.

This thread is full of hearsay & misinformation. 2.2 refers to the board version and nothing about the processor. MSII has 16x16 tables and is more than adequate for streetability.

To the member saying he does not trust his MS at 7 psi, why? No confidence in your tune?

OP: head over to the msextra forums for more solid information. And you have a sleeved 420a? That is a first that I have heard of someone sleeving their iron 420a block.

I was off on the table by a small amount apologies. I was not the one that said I sleeved my block?? The resolution simply sucks compared to other systems for the simple fact that by changing one table value, the region between the surrounding values are changed as well. If there are less table values total this means more of the table is changed than if you had a high resolution. This is not optimal by any means when trying to maintain your desired a/f everywhere.

Not to mention all of this arguing is probably irrelevant to the member who originally posted this thread, although entertaining to say the least! Apologies scottdsm

its gonna be a strip car and occasionally weekend warrior but other then that i drive my mach 1 around

after dumping 7 grand in parts and labor i did it to bullit proof my motor and to know it can handle the 30psi like a champ! my transmission is in the shop now getting cryo-gear treatment with a spec stage 5 clutch

Just check out the MS website and see what options MS2 and MS3 offer and how they would suit your needs. Myself and a few friends run MS2 and has worked flawlessly thus far. My buddy uses it to run 8 injectors and dual fuel maps at 35+ psi.

Probly the MS3 with the full sequentil fuel and spark. And the bigger maps. Get the COPS setup and run it with the MS setup. That will be ## best bet. Also the MS can control boost

To everyone who says megasquirt can't be tuned and it has no resolution and blah blah blah all i have to say is my car ran 9.67 @ 147 mph on a Megasquirt 2 unit. You simply dont need a huge fuel table when the ecu is tuned via VE and doesn't work off injection timing and does true interpolation. Its more than capable of controlling 2150cc injectors even on start up and idle its perfect and drives even better. The OP can't use DSMLink b/c it appears he has a non turbo so no dsmlink for 420a apps.

If you have any megasquirt related questions just PM me i'll be more than happy to answer anything you have to ask....i am building a MS right now for a local customer to run in his 4g63 so everything is fresh in my mind.

The plural of anecdote is not "data."

But yes in the event it is a 420A, he would not be able to use ECMLink.

There are NT 4G63s though, I have one in my storage shed LOL Which is what elicited my comment.

I agree that's how my motor started off life actually LOL its was a non turbo 6 bolt that I slapped eagle rods and JE pistons.

But I've used every generation of MegaSquirt there has been and if this was 4 years ago I'd have to agree and say Megasquirt isn't for everyone because the older units were less than user friendly and intuitive, even tho I ran my car on the Megasquirt 1 with 1600cc Bosch injectors....and it did a good job. But with the new Megasquirt 2 extra code and esp with the Megasquirt 3, which I've installed in quite a few different cars, its an amazing powerful unit at a pretty decent price. The support for this unit is also top notch esp through DIYAutoTune.com Megasquirt Kits / Assembled Engine Management Systems, Wideband o2 Sensor Systems and tuning products and Megasquirt MSEXTRA / MS3EFI • Index page
