Yep thats my doubt which one is better? And what is the diameter of the 2g manifold in inches??

Thanks i dunno

When is a good time to replace the intake manifold. I'm completly stock right now but dont want to miss out on a good deal on a ported 1g mani for my 98gsx. By the time it gets here I'll have my FIPK, intake pipe, and exhaust. thoughts anyone?

Do you plan to get a 1G head? Without a 1G head, a 1G intake manifold will just cause turbulence. The manifold may be larger, but the runners in the head will still be the same size. Grab up a 1G TB and that should do you for now.

what's up guys, i was wondering if it's worth putting a 1g intake manifold on the 2g head.any one know what kind of #'s i would see in hp increase.if any one has performed the swap or just has some info to give me it would really be helpful.i know the ports are bigger but am i better off going with like a magnus manifold or sould i save some money and just go with the 1g manifold.thanks

I would guess 10-12 hp, you could just port yours to match it, althought the 2g doesnt have alot more room to port like the 1g manifild.

Well you could have HUGE wide open intake ports, but it wouldn't matter unless you port your head to match. And it would also help to get a 1g throttle body also for that extra flow. You wont feell much of a difference with low boost, but with a bigger turbo and more PSI it would be better to run the bigger intake mani., but like I said it is pointless to get one unless you port your head to match it. It will help a little without the porting but with that your trying to achieve with a bigger intake mani. it would be better to port match.

exactly right, just an intake manifold and throttle body wouldnt give you much of anything in terms of power. if your head ports are still stock size, which matches the size of your stock intake manifold, air cant get in any faster

a good ammount of head porting or a 1g head along with the manifold and TB would give you a somewhat considerable power increase

A local guy is selling me a 2G Mani for $30... how can I tell its a 2G from just looking at it and its not really a 1G?

Is the 2G Mani a direct bolt on to my 14b setup? If I were to port it out... would it be comparable to an unported Evo III Mani?

OK if I compare... will the difference be noteable? Is it worth the $30... will I see better spool up times?

The 2G manifold has "beefier" flanges than the 1G. Also a DEAD give away that its a 2G is that it WONT bolt on directly WITHOUT shaving the corner of the manifold near the motor mount.

I am currently rebuilding my setup. I want to put in a 1g throttle body along with a 1g intake manifold onto my 2g head. I dont want to go through all the effort of the 1g head swap. I know the runners on the 1g intake manifold are larger than the runners on the 2g head. I was thinking of just doing a mild port job on the head. My questions is, has anyone out there done this mod. and is it worth the work? should I just stick to the 2g tb and intake manifold and concentrate my efforts on turbo and fuel?

You would be better off to buy a proper intake manifold vs. porting a 2G manifold it will make a whole lot more power.

Also the 1G manifold's opening is so much larger than the intake port on the 2g head it's not a good idea. Some people talk about port matching it however your re-designing a port which usually leads to poor results when you don't have a lot of experence in porting The intake port then would go from large to small in a very short space which would no doubt have negative effects on flow and velocity.

Somebody tell me an honest concrete reason why putting a 1G IM on a 2G head doesn't have the potential to make more power than the 2G manifold. Honestly just because some guy said it wouldn't once on the internet and he had a fast car doesn't mean it's true.
Have you looked at the plenum on a 2G manifold? The thing is fit for a honda civic. While runner length plays the largest part in what RPM peak power occurs the plenum volume has a good effect on total power output. This is what I noticed watching the UW FSAE team test different manifold designs on their F4i engine. While a 1G manifold will still peak at ~6500rpm it will produce a higher peak power number than a 2G manifold if results are consistent with what I have seen on other cars.
Ever seen how SP welds on additional material to supra plenums to increase peak power output? The best supra tuner out there must be doing something right.

There is a way to reduce the size of the 1G intake manifold port size to match the 2G head. It's called epoxy and a little bit of time with a die grinder.

I'm not knocking the 1G manifold on a 2G because as NDgsx said it does make more power than a 2G manifold. That is proven and it does.

My definitation of a proper manifold is just something that bolts on and is designed for the application. Don't get me wrong I have done my share of jimmy-rigging shit up so if you want to go that way then go for it.

...Just go to the local junkyard, get the head/CAS/intake manifold off a 1G N/T eclipse, laser, talon, or hyundai (should be like $150 max...I paid $60). Get a valve job to ensure sealage (around $100-$200). Replace the cams in the 1G head with your turbo cams (or upgrade), buy some ARP studs ($100) and a decent head gasket ($100).
This can be done for under $500. I know, I am in due process of doig this myself. Gonna cost around $400 total! I'd suggest this route! It will be worth the little bit of extra effort. You can even use the N/T throttlebody if you put in new shaft seals (or the ones from your POS 2G TB!)

NDgsx, so you are saying to make the 1g intake mani match the 2g head? Sounds good.

Tallen,
All that work you are saying isn't as easy as buying parts and putting them in. From the RRE site, it looks like there is a lot of custom work as far as redrilling and so on.

I am not a lazy ass mechanic, but I do want to do my fair share of tuning. This is more the fact that I dont have time to do the the heavy duty work myself :thumbdown , but the 1g mani in tb sound good with the epoxy:thumb:

Also, like the Magnus SMIM:shhh:

If anyone is looking I have a complete 1G head intake and t-body complete with sensors all for 300. if anyone is interested in doing a complete swap.

I can get one for really cheap but will it fit? it looks like is has the flange for the ic piping but it doesnt look like its turbo (junk car). But anyway would it be worth is to pick it up.
