So here's what happened.

I bought a datalogger and decided the idea of taking it out to charge it is not efficient, so I ripped apart the wall charger and put a 7805 inline with the power (just for the extra added comfort even though I probably don't need it), and I tapped into the gauge cluster dimmer switch because it was the most accessible from when I wired up my aftermarket gauge pod gauges. Anyway I think I accidentally let the pos + neg touch and blew a fuse somewhere, but the one I thought was the fuse (10A GAUGE) is fine, yet my gauge dimmer isn't working now.

I pulled out a few more fuses that I thought might be the right ones but they were fine as well. The charger was actually working for a few seconds and then I think I bumped the pos + neg together.

there is no fuse fo the dimmer itself you probably shorted out the dimmer switch, i always get a few when i can at the junkyard. just in case.

Ok I tested the dimmer and it's getting current at all the main power points/solder points. 300ohms it was saying. Anyway is there another way to test this thing or am I missing something?

So I think I found the problem...

I wired my fog lights to be on all the time when the switch stopped working 2 years ago and when I wired in my datalogger charge cable I thought I used the same color wire for both pos and neg but as it turns out I accidentally tapped into my fog lights pos wire as well as my dimmer pos wire. Oops! anyway I'm waiting outside the local parts store until they open because I need another 10A fuse for my brake lights under the hood. Now hopefully I'm right and I can tap into the right power source this time :/

Now after finally getting the fuses and proper wires connected I hooked up some jumpers between the black and b/yellow and the lights work. Then I plugged the dimmer switch in and no lights again. So, anyone know how to repair the dimmer switch? I've got a soldering iron just need to know what to replace.
