Hi does anyone know if there is a master listing of the evo and dsm oem parts that are uprgrades for 2g turbos? I know the following are upgrades:

1g throttle body
Evo VIII fuel pump
Evo VIII injectors
Evo VIII cams (maybe)

Are there more out there? Looking for bolt-on stuff that will give some bang for the buck.

Yes, the stock BOV will bolt right up. It is similar to the stock 2g BOV but it is metal and works as good as a 1g BOV.

1g head flows better than a 2g. Also the 14b turbo that comes on a 1g is an upgrade from the t-25. Also the 1g bov is much better.

Evo Parts
The shift knob fits.
The rear brakes are a direct bolt on.
The front brakes fit with the use of 99' galant steering knuckles.
The fuel injectors fit.
The bov fits.
The fuel pump can be used.
The rims fit but stick out a little.
Evo exhaust valves fit dsm heads.
Same timing belt.
Seats can work with custom brackets.
Intercooler can be made to fit.
Steering wheel can fit if a 1g hub is welded in.

The Evo turbo doesn't fit at all.
The Evo cams/head won't work.

DSM
Port your 2g exhaust manifold
1g bov w/adapter plate
1g 14b turbo w/ install kit.
1g head.
1g throttle body w/ 2g throttle body elbow.

That is misinformation. The Lancer Evolution VIII BOVs are not metal. They are plastic. However, the JDM Evolution VIIIs do have metal BOVs when they come from the factory. Additionally, these plastic BOVs that the US-spec EVOs have do not tend to hold as much boost as the 1G BOVs. However, the metal JDM BOV is able to hold up to 22psi. According to some EVO tuners, the plastic OEM BOV can begin leaking around 13psi.

Here is the JDM Lancer Evo8's metal BOV (with the second link you must scroll down about two-thirds of the way):

EDIT: BTW the JDM EVO8 BOV is a direct fit for the 2G owners, but only can be utilized if you are still working with the stock UICP.

Though it is still plastic, the EVO8 BOV should still be an upgrade for a 2g, if you can get it for free. ;) It doesn't do too bad. I eventually upgraded the EVO to my Gus Modded 1g BOV. It doesn't leak, but in real life there was no measurable performance gain.

The metal bov comes stock on evo ix's and for the record, I have never had any trouble with the plastic stock bov in my evo, boost tested the beast to 20psi and it never leaked. I think its a great lowbuck alternative to the 2g bov. They usually sell for around $25-30 shipped.

Then I guess it depends on who you talk to.

BTW you are correct in saying that the EVO IX comes with a metal BOV.

Depends on where you get it from. I recently called up a local Mitsubishi dealership and they wanted $150 for a new plastic EVO VIII BOV. $150!! So I said thank you and hung up the phone.

These are the only things i didnt see.

The EVO 3 Exhuast Manifold

the Evo 3 02 Housing

the 1g DSM SMIC is larger than the 2g SMIC

yea thats all i can think of...

I have brought this up before, and have never gotten a straight answer. I'm sure there are other factors that I have not considered, but would (or why wouldn't) an Evo III intake manifold be a possible upgrade?

Two photos of an Evo III engine (quite uncanny, don't you think?):

Perhaps the best people to ask this question would be the individuals who have owned both a DSM and an Evo III.

Evo 3 camshafts are up for sale in the classifieds. Are they any better than 1G's? and more importantly, would they pass draconian california emmission testing??? sometimes I hate living in cali

Perhaps you can try asking Defiant about this.

BTW I did find my answer to the Evo III intake manifold question I posed earlier:

The Evo III intake manifold is an upgrade.

However, as far as I know, GreddyGst is the only well-known member on here that has done it. Remember that this intake manifold will be extremely hard to find. I doubt that even going to Satan will yield any results. The only alternative I see is going on different Lancer Evolution forums and asking around or post something up in the classifieds specifically asking for this part.

I want an Evo III intake manifold real bad. let's face it, the stock 2G manifold sucks. I was just gonna use a 1G and have my head ported to match. But I'm sure the evo's manifold flows better, will pass CA smog tests, and a sooooo much easier than hooking up a galant's cyclone manifold... :thumb: I'm kicking myself right now because an evo 3 manifold was for sale on ebay a while back and I didn't buy it!!!
