Which engine management solution would you use under these circumstances?

I own GVR4 1232/2000. So far, I'm stockpiling parts for a basic 16G setup, consisting of RC 550's, a Walbro 255, ETS FMIC. I know I need an FPR, I'm just not sure which one I'm going to get yet. I plan to use an AEM wideband 02 sensor regardless of any other factors. Now, here's my dilemma. I work for an AEM distributor, and can get AEM EMS for around $900. Since I have access to this deal, should I get EMS instead of DSMLink, which was the other solution I had in mind? I don't plan on keeping this car 16G-powered forever, but I do plan on keeping the car until I'm an old, dead man.

So, what would you choose, and why?

Aem Ems all the way! There is no comparison between the two. Especially if you car does not have an eprom ecu. You'll spend close to the price difference on just that. Dsm link is just a glorified AFC, with timing control. The aem is the last tuning device you'll ever need!

I voted for DSMLink.

1. Ease of use.
2. Not a stand alone management system (see 1 above)
3. More support than you can "shake a stick at" from real world users.
4. Can get you into the 9s, which is way deeper than most will ever do.
5. Street-able right out of the box.

I chose AEM, because I have the AEM ECU and I love speed density. On a serious note, you have full control over everything not to mention the car runs alot smoother and no more idle surge. My favorite so far is the boost comp feature which allows you to adjust fuel by boost. Say that at 25 Psi your running lean well just adjust the fuel at that particular boost level. This is alot easier then just adjusting the fuel table. I have the AEM boost selonoid which makes adjusting boost nice, however you have to have the lap top going to change between boost levels/maps.

I chose AEM because i love stand alone systems and have made that mainly what i do anymore with cars (install and tune EMS's) since i'm needing a fusion in my back and can't do alot of the engine tranny swapping stuff regularly.

But anyway, the AEM will be far more flexible, but they are honestly a PITA in some tuning aspects because they have "too many options" for things like idle and other simple stuff. So when you have an issue, instead of looking at one thing or a few settings, you've got to figure out what diagram/map areas you need to work on and then use your best guesses to get it right.

Don't get me wrong i love AEM's, but they aren't for the faint of heart when it comes to setup and tuning, there are far easier systems out there for sure. DSMlink is great too, but if you've got het time and patience to learn the AEM (especially for that price) then i say go for it!!!!!!! You'll thank yourself when you finally get it figured out and learn to use all the extra outputs and stuff like that (automapping is nice too)
