i have been searching and searching and maybe i am just tired but i cant seem to find anything but phantom grip and like 2 no-name lsd inserts on ebay i've heard decent things about the bmt lsd insert but i cannot find a link to purchase one???? also my tranny is a 95...

A true clutch type differential (I think the Cusco and the Kaaz are both clutch types) will have clutch packs on the spider gears. The device inside the diff will apply more pressure to the clutch packs of the gripping wheel and less to the slipping wheel to keep them turning equally.

Utter nonsense. The way all these LSDs work is by prevent the diff from being a diff. They don't act on one output separately from the other. That's actually impossible, due to there being gears directly connecting the two outputs such that anything that happens to one also happens (in reverse) to the other. Not even the AYC in an Evo acts only on one output.

A gear type (Quaife) uses a set of gears. When one wheel spins faster than the other by a significant amount it drives the gears into each other and forces both wheels to spin at the same speed. I'm not super clear on how this works, but there are videos you can watch.

More nonsense. A helical is sensitive to differences in transmitted torque and does not give a rat's behind about differences in speed. Of the three main types of diff - clutch-packs, helicals, and VCs - only VCs care about speed.

A viscous differential has viscous fluid on each gear. When one is being driven faster than the other the fluid becomes more viscous and that begins to drive the other gear.

Nope. Not even close, really. A VC has zilch to do with the gears, which is why it can be piggy-backed in a completely different location, as it is in the center of a DSM. The VC is either between the two outputs (e.g., the rear of a DSM) or between the input and one output (e.g., the center of a DSM).

Why did I bother to write these?

Yag.

Given the other "information" that he or she has provided, why does it matter? No DSM ever came with a clutch-pack-type LSD and inserts are inserts, regardless of what springs are used, so for what purpose do you want the little springs from a Ford?

Jack's will sell you a real front diff for a 1G for under a $1k. I know of no cheaper option that makes any sense at all.

I got the one from slow boy racing.

There was a dip in the road and one tire seemed to get more traction and the next thng i knew i was limping off the freeway.

Insert is lighter than a quaife which i have now.

Maybe there is a track application for the insert?

The quaife is far superior for driving.

Quaife is worth it. The wave one is similar I think.

My insert destroyed my transmission.

Hmm.. And you you -200hp correct? When was this you had it? How do you drive? And how many miles did it give you before it went like that? Thanks. Yeah, I'd like this "quaife" I've been reading about.

theres a chance it was installed wrong because it was not far and it seemed to resist turning. so from geometry, due to the different radii on a turn the two wheels are going to have slight differences. this was a noticable issue as it locked the differential. it is supposed to release its lock under certain pressure which translates to resistance in turning. so if you plan on turning much then that is when I had a bad experience with the insert.

I like to turn. Daily Driver?

again if you got the tranny for $50 then try the install for a hundred someone mentioned but replacing the transmission is no picnic.

the quaife turns and grabs awesome and worth every penny!

stock natural intake

(geometry: the inside wheel travels the slightest bit shorter distance, creating noticable resistance with the insert)
