Hey guys I literally have a huge little problem here with my 2G 2.0 turbo engine...

I can't find my gasket or 0-ring or whatever that is supposed to sit in the groove of the thermostat housing to seal it to the head. (Refer to pictures of housing and head)

The repair manual calls it an o-ring (part#10 on diagram), and if I remember correctly it was an orange rubbery seal that was in the exact key-like shape of this groove. But mine has certainly been lost, and I can't seem to find any of them anywhere. I can't even find any mention of this seal anywhere on the internet at all.

I went to the dealer and they told me that it originally came only with the entire thermostat housing, and didn't even have its own part number. Oh yeah, and it has long been DISCONTINUED. Even though they can still be found online for around $100, I absolutely refuse to spend that much money just for one little o-ring.

Does anybody know where I can find one of these without buying the entire assembly? I'll buy a used one off somebody if it's in good condition, I don't care. I just want my Talon to start spanking asphalt again!

Thank you in advance for any help or advice you can give.

Go buy a new thermostat at your local parts store, most times they come with them.
Worst comes to worst use RTV.

No, that is just the thermostat gasket.

It's not anywhere on Rock Auto, or DSM Graveyard, or a whole bunch of other sites I don't normally use and can't name because I've never had to use them until this problem came around.

It's like everyone just lists all the same parts as eachother. There's just a bunch of gaskets for the thermostat and for the water elbows, and plain round o-rings for the water pipes. Stuff for every other part of the cooling system.

Thank you for joining in the search tho. I appreciate it! :)

Wow I didn't think I would get so many replies on this so quickly...

I too was going to just use RTV, but several mechanically-minded people told me it was a bad idea for this.

I'm actually delighted to hear that several of you have went that route, and have been successful.

If I couldn't find anything soon I was just going to resort to the old tube of silicone, and then just plan on taking it off again and re-sealing it WHEN or IF it ever started to leak.

Too bad the option for creating a Poll was only in my initial post and seems to be gone now. I guess I am just going to seal it with RTV unless this thread suddenly gets overwhelmed by disaster stories.

Thank you to everyone for responding.
