Just bought a 97 GSX M/T and need to know where the transmission mounts are located. The guy I bought it off of said the front transmission mount was bad. What I feel when shifting quickly feels like the engine is moving back and forth and it doesn't engage until the movement settles down(~0.5 sec). Also, at higher revs, about 3500 +, if I am in gear and let off of the throttle I can feel, i guess the transmission, wobbling around. The motor mounts look fine, not deteriorated. But I cannot find the transmission mounts on the car or where to find them online. Help would be great.

The Transmission/Roll Stop mounts are located in the center of the car at oil pan height. One just in front of the engine and one just behind the engine, bolted to a crossmember that runs from the front to the back underneath the engine.

Just get a set of Prothanes. The roll stops are the ones that really count. You dont HAVE to bother with the side mounts if you dont want to/want to save money.
Easy fix brother, good luck and congrats on the new nightmare! jk

DIY: Best bang for the buck. 2slow4now brought this up so i figured id link it:

You have 4 engine/tranny mounts total. Might as well replace them all with prothane and/or black_gst's roll stops. I don't know if he has any made up. You could ask. http://www.dsmtuners.com/members/black_gst.94890/

Your mounts are one on top of the tranny passenger side, one on engine driver side, roll stop under the turbo on crossmember, one on top of the front subframe under the TB.

You can even spend a bunch if you wanted. http://www.streettunedmotorsports.com/parts/avid_racing_dsm_motor_mounts_aluminum.htm
Or you can buy some from a parts store (aftermarket-stock) http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/1998-Mitsubishi-Eclipse/Motor-Mount/_/N-jag03Z93xoa
The thing is with the stock style aftermarket is the cost will be more than just getting prothanes. So IMO I wouldn't buy the stock-aftermarket mounts.

I would go prothane, a freelancer bushing, or custom make my own. There is a thread on here about modifying 1g prothanes for a 2g roll stop. Oh yeah some have done the window weld method too. Just look it up.

Thanks very much everyone. I removed the battery and it is right underneath it. The one bolt on one side of the mount was backed out about 3/16" and could see the mount moving if we nudged the engine. Got it tightened and no more moving, and perfect shifts. Now a weird idle problem in neutral when coasting....
