That's hilarious. Just a shot in the dark and I was right. I heard some stupid Max/Gordon Pepsi commercial yesterday and I figured It would be like that down there.

Hey Tony, saw this on CL, just a heads up. Ya know . 3 Car Hauler Trailer
I typed in car trailer in my search box, and ironically below that 3 car hauler was a "chicken coop" for sale LOL

Update: Called the machine shop and they said they got backed up and they're still working on my head. They told me it should be done by Saturday but now it's Tue and still not done. They've been great with promise times until now. Guess i got ALMOST all of my machine work done before the mad rush.

So today i laid some paint down on my waterpump pulley, crank pulley and thermostat housing and put the sensors back in the t-stat housing. Tomorrow i need to pick up some RTV, exhaust gasket and maybe do some more painting in my engine bay. It would be nice to get a call saying the head is ready so i can get some work done on my day off on Thursday.

Wow, if that doesn't motivate you, I don't know what will. That head is the bee's knees man! I think if that car doesn't crack a 10 sec pass this year I get to tow it to crazy rays for you. If you remove the front area carpet, you'll notice that there is some thin particle board wood on the sides to add support as well as some thick padding. I removed all of that and put the carpet back in, while it's out, you could clean it at the carwash or something too. How crazy are you going with the interior of this race car? I'm kinda digging the look of the shifter w/o the console.

If you keep the carpet, use Purple Power to get those stains out. But add water to it to dilute it, cause that sh*t is like bleach. It'll turn that carpet different colors.

You can also drop some Dry Ice down on that sound proofing crap in your trunk. I'm not sure if that stuff is anywhere else, as I have not removed my carpeting yet...

Edit: OK, I see it in the back seat area too, so it probably is under the carpet on the driver and pass side.

Yep, the sound detonating material goes from the trunk up to the the bottom of the firewall where your feet go. I heard dry ice works well, but both times i removed it, i used a big chisel and a BFH.

UPDATE: Got my head today. It doesn't look anywhere as good as Adam's does, but it's ready to rock. They said they couldn't bead blast it completely since I already brought in the head to have it decked and that can damage the smooth decked surface. It is better though. It's fully assembled and leak tested as well. Tomorrow I'd like to drop her on and torque down the ARPs. It's game time!

Thats tight. I thouht you said it was going to be a longer turn around? Who care's what it looks like. Its the functionality and the fact that you are about to bolt the damn thing up, is what you should worry about. Looking forward to seeing this thing rip in person.

Today I got my shipment of all my misc things (tensioner, pulleys, gaskets, ect) I still need a few things, but for the most part I can start putting her together this weekend. Does anybody know where I can get that dry ice? I would try the hammer and chisel but this stuck peels off like tar. I guess if you do it when its cold it would be a little better.

Does anybody know where I can buy assembly lube also? I have been to advanced, pep boys, and auto zone and all I find is a big fat nothing. I guess I am going to end up ordering some. Just sucks because I was trying to at least put the head together this weekend. :(

When is the goal date to get this thing cranked Travis?

The ETA on getting the head back started at LAST Saturday, I told them I would be picking it up on Tuesday. When i didn't get a call, I called up and they said they got busy, but they called and said it was done Wednesday. Yeah I'm not sweating the small imperfections like a little carbon left in the combustion bowl areas, they got every thing else cleaned up really nice and the used valves i gave them came back looking new. The main thing I was concerned about, is that the machinist told me that when he leak tested it, everything sealed up perfect.

Adam, it sounds like you're ready to get to work now. I would be in the garage working on my right now, but one of our drivers at work had to go to the hospital with his wife, so I'm covering his shift for at least this morning (slow so far). Since the machine shop assembled my head and torqued everything down, I guess I'm done using my assembly lube. I got mine at Advance Auto. You can use mine to get yours put together, just return it when you're done, since my buddy will be building his Camaro engine next.

As far as getting my running, i was hoping to have it done this weekend assuming that I would have the head by Tuesday and busting my hump to get it done all week. That didn't happen and I'm pretty tired lately, so I'm just going to work on it when i have time and try to get it done SOON. I don't want to kill myself and not want to go back to finish it the following day, kinda like going back to the gym...ease in to things LOL.

BTW: I'll bring my camera to update on some pics.

HAHAHA...thanks man but I just placed another order with extreme for some small stuff. Clevite assembly lube, Ngk bre8's, arp moly, redline gear oil for trans-case-rear, exhaust studs, small bolts, fittings, ect...

This small stuff is nickel and timing me to death, but it has to be bought eventually. I'm broke now and won't be able to buy anything for a while. Got a bunch of bills coming down the pike. I tried to focus on getting all the small stuff so I will not be held up with the build.

Get some pictures up man!!!!

Damn Adam!! I have some brand new pulleys (timing), and two bottles of Redline 75/250!!! I need to replace the rear diff fluid in mine, but Speed unlimited sells it in stock for like 12bux. If you guys need any more, let me know. Also, if you guys need help this weekend, give me a call. I'm free.

Yeah i was a little to late for Adam too, i have assembly lube and i just found two extra packs of ARP molly lube. I also think i have a set of NGK8ES, but i think I'll be needing those. As for this weekend Russ, I'll let you know. A couple guys from work are out right now, so I may still be covering their shifts on Saturday as well. I have plans on Saturday night and Sunday is up to the wife on how much garage time i get. 75/250 gear oil?! Did i read that right? Holly cow. Well anyway, i worked today on my day off so only a couple hours of progress, but here are some over due pics:

Yeah!! Redline Shockproof is 75/250. I think Adam got his pulleys already so if you need some brand new ones, let me know. They're still in the plastic.

i need the timing pulleys, how much?

Looks sick. Those parts look clean! Head looks just like mine and yours is 100% together. Did you sand blast that water pipe? What did you end up doing with the t housing paint wise? Are you just going to leave it the way it is?

This may be random but do we have to keep all the sensors in that housing? I know there are like 4-5. I read in the manual that one is for the ac temp , one is boost related with the two nipples, one is for the gauge cluster temp, and the other is for engine temp control. Seems as if we can delete a few if we are not running AC. Also I know the water nipples go to the turbo, coolant over flow and what else? There are 3 on the front. Top is to coolant overflow, then this is were I'm lost. Which one of the two on the bottom goes to the feed? If someone can givpe me a routing layout of the water lines, that would be great.

Looks good Travis.

You should be able to get dry ice at 7-11 or another convenient store. You can delete all the sensors except for the gauge temp and engine temp control. I also left in the AC temp and use it as a switch to turn the fans on and off when I have the AC running. I installed a vintage air AC since all the hoses when I got the car were dry-rotted and the previous owner only left the heater motor installed.

Thanks Adam, I have been putting some time in to this job. As for the coolant tube, i used my die grinder with some sanding cookies on it and i used sand paper in the hard to reach areas. As for the thermostat housing, I got them sand blasted, disassembled them and cleaned them well, prepped them with acetone and then sprayed 3 coats of silver engine enamel paint and 1 or 2 coats of engine enamel hi temp clear. The thermostat housing that I'm using is from a non turbo engine. I'm using this one because it deletes 2 of the coolant lines that go to the turbo and coolant tube. The coolant tube in the pictures that I'm using is also from a non turbo. The non turbo coolant tube deletes to coolant lines that comes off of it on the turbo tube model. One of those lines goes down to the filter housing, but since i installed a forward facing filter housing from a mighty max w/o an oil cooler, I don't need that line.
So by running the non turbo thermostat housing and coolant tube, on the housing the non turbo deletes the 2 lines and I also pluged the hole where the one sensor with the 2 plastic nipples coming off it was. So like Russ said, I have my coolant temp sensor, and my engine temp sensor and then of the upper thermostat housing the small nipple goes to the over flow bottle, and on the lower housing the big line goes to a heater hose to the fire wall, and the smaller line goes to a short hose to the small nipple of the back side of the skinny tube on the coolant tube. This will be a much simpler, reliable and cleaner looking set up for my oil cooled turbo. The thermostat housings that are painted with the fittings next to my stock turbo housings in the picture above are just like they are right before i put the thermostat in and installed it. You'll notice in the lower right corner of the painted housing the brass plug that i got from home depot to plug that weird sensor that i removed.

As far as progress goes: Me and a few buddies worked at the engine for about 7 hours total for me last night. The engine is complete and ready to drop in. The clutch is installed and the trans just has to be mated. I'm beat, but i need to take a shower and get back out to the garage so peace!

After working on getting my car done spending the last two days and a total of about 20 hours of working on with a couple friends stopping by to lend a hand installing stuff, i finally got it done and started. BUT there is a high pitched whining noise coming from the timing belt area that i have to look at. Once i get that figured out and fixed, I'll be putting some break in miles on it. Hope it's something minor. Well, as always, here are the pics :D

Yes sir!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Besides the oil pump thing we talked about, why don't you take off you alt. belt and water pump belt to rule those out. That way you know where it is coming from. Those are new pullies so it isn't them. I still say look into the oil pump. I did a little research when i was looking into the Toplines, and I see some people have problems with pumps that whine. I could be way off, but there is only so much it could be. Sucks you gotta take the cover off though. Your close man, very close. Can't wait to see this thing RIP!

As for my progress...I didn't get shitt done this weekend. I got a few little detail things done and did a little research on the sensors, wiring, ect. but that is about it. I wire wheeled a bunch of small things and they turned out great I think. I'm trying to decide if I want to get things powdercoated, bolt them on like this, or polish them up. More than likely I am going to bolt them up the way they are. I have soooooo much to do and sometimes it gets very overwhelming. I am going to have a task ahead of me with this harness. Regardless of if I wanted to do it, it has to be done. It is cut eveywhere.
I am trying to get one little thing done each day after work. Maybe I will catch up to Travis some day.

Thanks Ryan and Adam! I appreciate the complements. Ryan the parts turned out great and i hope the paint stays like that for quite some time. Adam your parts are looking fresh. I know you have a lot of work ahead of you and that since you're trying to put that car back together the right way that you have even more work to do, but the parts that will get bolted back under the hood of your car will blow doors off. Your cylinder head is one of the nastiest dsm heads i've seen. It may be a ton of work, but you wont regret it once it's done. You are doing things right if i may so so.

As for my car, yeah it's together and i'm very happy with how it looks, but i need to figure that noise out tomorrow after work. I'm also going to reload my tune on to my ecu and my buddy is bringing a timing light over to get my CAS adjusted. I can't believe that the car ran half decent considering those things.
I already removed the alt/waterpump belt last night after the maiden voyage of the first start up. The engine was whining loud at 12:20am and i'm sure the neighbors were loving that and my 3" exhaust LOL. Well, more updates soon, I just hope it's something obvious.

The tensioner pulley wasn't adjusted right even though the belt had plenty of tension, it was locked down 180* so when the eccentric was spun down, the pulley rubbed the mount it bolts too. This caused the pulley to not spin and the timing belt was screeching on it. I had it running on the initial start up for a few minutes like this as i tried to figure it out and then pushed the car in the garage. We readjusted it and she's nice and quiet. Got some gas in her and put a whopping 7 miles on her. I'll be driving it more today.

Adam I may see you sometime this weekend. But you're always welcome to swing by and check it out, you know, if I'm not about to go to the movies LOL.

Any Updates? Sunday is looking better for me to meet up, but i would have to plant that seed in the wifes head soon.
