Okay, so I hope this is the right section to ask this. Since I'm still a new member.

So I took my car in for an unrelated issue and they said that I had a "loose right hub." I took it to another place yesterday and said that it was a Wheel Hub Assembly or Wheel Hub Bearing. They quoted the price to remove and replace it.

My question:
Does it need to be fully replaced? Or...can it be tightened?

And what is the difference between a Wheel Hub Assembly and Wheel Hub Bearing? Does the WHA include the WHB? Here is a link for the Wheel Hub Assemblies I'm looking at...which one should I get? And is that everything I need (based on the pics) to switch it out?

Thank you so much.

In terms of the wheel hub assembly, the answer is yes, that's all you're going to need. I heard the Timken brand is also a good choice.

Thanks guys, very helpful! ...I think the mechanic mentioned Timken...I'll do some research and see if they are good.

Thanks again!

Just to clarify they one shop probaly said hub assembly because it is IDEAL to replace the entire hub and bearing instead of trying to save the hub. This is due to the fact that if the bearing is actually bad, then when they press the bearing out sometimes the inner ring gets stuck on the hub and then you have to cut the ring off. This can cause damage to the hub and thus you would need a new hub and bearing regardless. So whoever told you hub assembly I would assume had a better idea of what they were getting into.

My hub was actually broke, the only thing holding the wheel on was the axle nut. I paid 1 hour labor and part was 150.

What did you get quoted as I just got this done and paid $200

Well, the quote included replacing an inner tie rod end, a sway bar end link, and the hub assembly. All of that ran $541.36. $277.86 in parts, $263.50 in labour. So $200 for just that probably isn't too far off.

But yeah, when he said $541.36...that's when I decided to do it myself! I don't have that kind of dough to drop on this!

Yeah, I think the original shop put down 'loose right hub' meaning the entire assembly. It's a pretty reputable place, so I would think they'd do it the right way and replace the whole assembly.

While I'm on the topic. Are there any tricks to changing these suckers out? There are numerous threads on replacing the AWD hub assemblies. Is it the same concept?

Thanks again.
