on a 2g are the wheel bearings whole hub assemblys or are they pressed in bearings? i dont have access to a shop press and have never pressed in a wheel bearing personally to boot. have on the other hand done whole hub assemblys and think it would be much much easier. Also is it really that much of a cost difference that you wouldnt replace the whole hub? again i have seen pressed bearings done and just seems like a whole lot more work.
 
interesting enough so its kinda like to you wanna buy both and work a little harder or take the easier route? as usual lazy doesnt pay off financially. hahaha
 
I've seen places that sell the bearing without the hub for a 2G. With that said, I would just bend over and buy the entire unit. You're going to have enough fun removing the axle and getting those four bolts out of the knuckle. By that point in the job, you'll really want a pre-made bearing and hub to slap on.
 
This is what I was trying to ask in my thread dealing with this. For the separated hub unit (spline side and bearing), will the spline half get pressed into the bearing properly when the axle nut is tightened? Will pushing it in by hand (the spline side into the bearing) be enough temporarily for it to become pressed in when tightening the axle nut?

Aside from OEM, I have not seen any rear whole assemblies for AWD, just FWD.
 
Hm. I bought entire units, so I don't know whether you'd have to press it in completely before installing. I probably would, if it were me. If you use the axle to do it, will you really be able to see when you're done? Also, if it takes more force than spec for the axle-nut to press it in, what will you do? Go above spec on the axle to get the bearing in and risk the axle threads? I don't like the idea of using the axle to press in the bearing.
