Currently I have 215/50/17 on my talon...I found a real nice deal on some sweet gunmetal wheels with tires, but it says the tires are 205/40/17...Now obviously they come with the wheels so that will be fine, but is 205/40/17 worse or whats the difference? I don't really know much about tires and all that... Would these work ok?

stock for mine is 205/55/16

the 205 is the width of the tire in mm, the 40 is for the sidewall hight_40% of the width (82 mm), and of course the 17 is the rim size. i would not recomend going with this tire as the ride quality of this tire would suck! plus with the short sidewall you risk cratering a rim if you hit a pothole or good size bump.

if you want a better tire go with a 225/45/17 or you may be able to fit on 235/45/17... those would be the best choices for tire size on a 17" rim. If you plan on throwing on a 205/40/17 it would not only be thinner but also have a lower profile than your current ones. So it would be less traction.. look weird.. and your speedometer/odometer would read wrong thinking you have bigger tires.
