Whats the most retarded thing you've ever done while working on your car.

Damn there is so many that it is hard to say from bathing in tranny fluid to setting myself on fire and my car when welding on it but lately like two weeks ago while working on another car. I was torquing something and the damn socket slipped off causing me to get smashed in the side of the face with end of the wrench. It was hard enough that I fell over the side of the car and I put a dent in the right front fender. After a few choice words from the pain I relized that my collar was wet with what blood. I put a 3" gash in my cheek. It swelled up and looked like a cherry knot. It not easy to hide and everyone thinks you were in a fight or something. No just a stupid F%^$ing clutz!

Hmm the other day I was cleaning some misc. electrical parts with LectraClean, no protection.. Let's just say that stuff burns like HELL. I went to shoot a connector, with the harness side facing away from me and the clip boomeranged the stuff right into boh of my eyes. Dropped everything right there and sprinted BLIND from my driveway to the sink in the house ROFL Needless to say I grabbed the goggles afterwards :tease:

Oh, and I was taking my passenger seat out to see if a friend's bucket seats would fit and had the bright idea to hold the seat by the slider rail. As I was pulling the seat out, the back release lever bumped the door jamb and everything popped lose. I happened to be holding it just right that the bigger part of the slider bit my scrawny fingers and held them against the cross piece. Luckliy my friend was there to set me free after he stopped laughing at me

And of course the common dropping of nuts/bolts and forgetting tools in the engine bay.. I never did find that 10mm...

I was working on my brother's Camaro one day, we were emptying the coolant out. He went inside to use the bathroom and I ran out of room in the jug we were using so I grabbed the first thing I saw without thinking......Gatorade bottle. I get done and throw it off to the side. I start working on something else and he comes out not knowing any better and grabs the bottle and takes a swig. I don't think I have ever run faster from the big bro in my life.

My "we-todd-ed" story would be when I first was working on my DSM. Bought the talon as a shell and spent about 9 or so months putting it together etc. Got everything together and the day we started it we put it up on jack stands all around. Started it up and everything was good. At the time I had my fan attached to a switch in the car. We were filling up the coolant as it ran and turning the fan on and off to get the coolant flowing through everything. I was in drivers seat turning it on and off as my friend told me to. Then I wanted to put it in gear and make sure all 4 wheels would spin and nothing was wrong (what you think happens didn't). Everything was fine, wheels turned blah blah. Turned car off and not but like 1 sec later we had a fountain spewing out of the radiator cap. My friend did not put the cap back on and I was running the engine with the fan off. Coolant covered everything in my nice clean engine bay.

About a month later we hooked the fan up to the stock wiring. No problems after that.

Just finished putting my turbo back together and was tweaking my new eye bolt I had just replaced on the side of the head. Tweaked turned into tourqued and the eye bolt snapped sending oil all over my engine bay and all over the garage floor. :tease:

When I was 18 I was scraping my battery terminals with my pocket knife that I had on my key chain. The ignition key accidently touched the other terminal while I was scraping and proceded to arc weld my knife to the terminal. I remember my hand clenching down and trying to pull my knife away from the battery and stabbing myself in the chest. Luckily it was a shallow wound. Since then, I've spent the extra $5 and use a terminal cleaner.

HA we have a winner!!!!:p

Back when I was like 15 and my brother had his Talon we were taking the turbo off and I wanted to help so he gave me the easy job of taking the 4 manifold-to-turbo bolts out. Apparently I didn't know my right-tighty lefty-loosey and I started tightening the bolt. I snapped the first bolt I tried taking out and he told me to get the hell away from his car. I learned my right-tighty lefty-loosey real quick.

A couple weeks ago I was installing a new Mishimoto radiator with electric fans and new hoses. It took us no more than an hour to do so. When we were done my buddy left and I was like ok add coolant, run it through car, make sure fans turn on. So Im pouring in the coolant and after I finish pouring one jug in I hear this noise like someone is taking a piss. Im like WTF. So Im looking around then I look at my garage floor and when I got the radiator the drain cap wasnt srewed out to hold in the coolant. I was like OMG. I just left it there and finished in the morning.

Also misc. bolts and nuts have disappeared into the darkness of my engine bay never to be seen again. And leaving ratchets on my valve cover and driving around ROFL

I think my worst was just 3 days after having my old 2g painted, I was changing my brakes and after I finished, stood up, walked around the front of the car with about 10 things in my hand, try to answer a phone and dropped my lug key on my hood..Chipped the paint about the size of a half dollar right above the diamond..

Its all about the warranty. I told them I was closing my hood and the chip of paint went flying. They fixed it that day.

I did almost the same thing a few weeks ago only it was with the oil. Only 5 qts hit the garage floor and at $8qt plus $12 for floor cleaner it only cost $52 and tax.

HAAHAHAHA
My buddy did that with his turbo civic. Changed the filter and left the old gasket on. There went 4 qts of oil. He turned his car on and started backing up and I was like OMG stop and shut the car off ROFL

Disclaimer:
No Hondas were harmed in this incident LOL

well last year i replaced all my valve stem seals and put a metal head gasket on. i took the car for a ride and it drove like crap high rpms. i pulled some pipes apart and i left a huge llump of tissue in my intake manifold to prevent things from getting in. and it got stuck at the throttle pretty dump but an easy fix.

Well I've been having a blast with mine. First time I installed the motor I had a leaky injector O-ring went to start the car and the whole engine bay caught on fire. Or my neighbor who put the timing belt on but had the exhaust cam 180 degrees out. That was a fine night of 32 degree weather redoing the timing belt. Um...Forgetting the Balance shaft bearing and driving the car for about a month with low oil pressure before realizing it. Hmmmm... Fun times and I've only had the car since October.

hasnt anyone left their mas unpluged after doing some work then wondering why the car wont run right and looking all over the place for something to be wrong?

yup, it idles but wont go, then click, there goes the lightbulb!

Havent experienced that yet but one time I almost left my recirc. tube off.
That would have been a fun stumbling, blowing black, smoke, stalling time :thumb:

...started the car with a 1/2in drive ratchet still in the front of the crank (was using it earlier to get the engine to TDC). =P

Took the car for a highway test drive with magical lugnuts. All I know is I was driving fine and then the front driver's side drops to the ground, I see sparks flying and my rim/tire rolling off in the distance. Luckily it was 2am and noone was near me. After my rim/tire flew off, some how a road nipple (reflector) got caught on my control arm and protected it somewhat. I retreived my rim/tire and then went back to the car and inspected the wheel studs. No stripping or damage. Get back to my garage... no lugnuts on the ground. I can only assume they were not torqued tight enough and flew off the car!

Real early in the morning after taking apart the intake track and putting it back together, I decided 3am was a decent time to swap in my new Optima. Everything went good, and then when I put it back in, I put it in correctly. But then, for some strange reason, I thought to myself, "Better make sure those bolts are tight" :|. As soon as I touched that wrench to the terminal bolt that whole garage lit up like it was a freakin' fireworks show. I turned out fine along with the battery and the wrench. But for the rest of that night and the next morning, I had INSANE static electricity in my left arm.

wile draining the radiator fluid, was talking with the rents, cleaning up and did't realize that on the bummper support was my cell phone, and when i closed the hood, knocked it off and into the nice pan of antifreeze....

Verizon wasnt pleased, but hey you got warrantys LOL

now the cell gets put up on the dash LOL.

Dropped in the engine. Put the oil drain plug on the valve cover to change the crush washer. Hooked everything up for the engine. Started putting fluids in. Grabbed a quart of Mobile 1 and dumped it in.... then hear fluid leaking. Look under to see a quart of oil on my sheet of plywood. I pulled the plywood out and put the empty bottle next to the spill to try and fool my dad and bro who were outside at the time that I knocked it over. Needless to say I changed the damn crushwasher and put my drain plug in.
