Whats the most retarded thing you've ever done while working on your car.

I once left my new phone (A Razor, it was new and cool then shhh) on the edge of the fender, and after doing a buddies valve cover gasket on his gst spyder, I went to slam the hood shut and it wouldnt go. Tried about 3 more times before realizing I was slamming a hood onto my phone.

Oh, and countless times of leaving the MAF unplugged.

Back in the olden days when I first started driving, I never torqued things to spec and for my lug nut, I took my 3/8s ratchet and connected it to a long metal pole and that is how I tightened my lug nuts. When I went to go rotate my tires couple months later, Snap! There goes on of my lug studs! 4 out of 5 driving away..

AHHHHHH fun times. Well, I put my car back together after a turbo rebuild I was driving home and forgot to put on the oil cap..... no big deal just a huge mess of oil in an already dirty engine bay, but no oil cap to be found. Made it home, got a new oil cap and enjoyed the rent of my day. The next day my buddies and I headed to a comedy show at the shorline. If anyone is farmiliar with this place there is a dirty road you take to get to the parking lot. while in line to park my friend says

"dude your cars smoking"
Me: " no way its jus the dirt from the road"
Him: "no dude look at your temp guage"
Me: " FUUUUUUUU CCCCKKK"
So we had to pull over while everyone at the comedy show was laughing at us and my overheating car... guess i was the opening act:rolleyes:

After the show I fill my car with water and limp it home. The next day I look and find that DAMN OIL CAP WEDGED IN MY RADIATOR FAN. Made my fan motor burn up so there was no fan cooling my car.. fun times Oh yah, my new turbo seals were blown too

The shoreline has steep hills that are fun to roll down. :|

I also killed a cell phone with my eclipse .....with the hood up i left it in between the bolts that hold the hood on and the engine bay....and when i went to close the hood and it only went down so far and crunch went phone...o well wont do that again.

I watched a friend take a baseball bat to his hood and fender because he was having trouble with a screw. Oh by the way, nice job waking a 7 month old thread.

5am very cold fall/winter morning needed some light to see under car so i strung up some x-mas lights over the exhaust and around some other parts to see

While changing the tranny fluid I forgot to close up the tranny drain bolt and waisted like 3 bottles of pennzoil syncromesh all over my garage and the garage smelled like tranny fluid for a week.

Also after messing around under my hood at a gas station at night, I left and drove around town with my cell phone on the valve cover for 20 mins or so before I realized I left it on there. Luckily it didnt fall off and it wasnt damaged.

...started the car with a 1/2in drive ratchet still in the front of the crank (was using it earlier to get the engine to TDC). =P

I came here to post that wow haha, but sadly my engine was done after that incident. The valves were smashed since it caused the belt to jump teeth.

I've also built an engine and drove it on no oil pressure for 20 mins and I was trying to figure out why it would not rev freely at all and shut off on it's own. :notgood: Never follow what some crappy claim to build ''4g63 all the time'' machinist say about using a high mileage pump. Surprisingly the assembly lube saved my ass. I just needed a micropolish and new bearings and oil pump. Now I make sure I hook up an after market pressure gauge to any freshly rebuilt engine.

Didn't use a ballpeen, but I was sitting indian style on the floor running the foglight mounting bracket bolts in with my DeWalt 18V screw/drill. I wasn't expecting one of the bolts to be tight already. I also didn't hold the drill that tight, so drill spun around 180 degrees. That 2 pound battery at the end of the handle has a lot of momentum in that 180 degree turn which got transferred into my forehead. DeWalt uppercut!

Also, in the following image you will see that Exhibit A was discovered when the radiator was pulled in a friend's car. IIRC it probably spent 6 months to a year in there. This makes exhibits B and C a bad idea in general. Exhibit D could be the problem as well.

My doorhandle was broken at the time and I slammed the door on my fingers after locking it. So naturally I reach for the doorhandle and obviously it wasnt there! So then I scream every swear word imaginable while trying to contort my other arm backwards into the tiny opening I left in the window. It sucked, but is kinda funny now that it doesnt hurt anymore.

I shoved a stick in my transmission where the axle goes to try to pop the other axle hub out.
The stick got stuck and took a week to get out of the transmission. I took my car out with my new jdm swap with out an oil cooler and ran 35 lbs of boost and thought that was horsepower.
