This is my first post so be easy. I did search, but could not find the
main differaces between the 1g 6 bolt and the 1g 7 bolt. I do know
the # of bolts is talking about the flywheel bolts. Also the car I am looking at
is a 93 talon awd auto, and has a tdo5 with supporting mods. How much more
hp will that pick up. (approx. speaking)
thanks for your replies

By supporting mods, I assume you are saying 450cc injectors and compensation for them(ecu or safc) I would guess it would be somewhere around the stock rating of 190hp.

The differances between the 6 bolt and 7 bolt:

6bolt - 12mm head bolts, larger intake ports on head and manifold, beefier rods, larger throttle body, etc
7 bolt - 11mm head bolts, smaller intake ports on head and manifold, weaker rods, smaller throttle body, etc

I dont remember all the differences but this is the main reason the 6 bolt is more desireable. And the 93 has a 7 bolt if you were wondering.

Care of;

You would already know this (hint, hint) if you had used the FAQ Locator; specifically, this section. The two engines have different oil pans, among other changes.

Before the oil pan method was identified, the only way to 'tell' if you had a 7-bolt engine was the production date of the car. According to the staff of Conicelli Mitsubishi, cars produced between March, 1989 and the third week of April, 1992 have 6-bolt motors; May, 1992 to the first week of May, 1994 have 7-bolt motors.

Another way might be to check the front brakes. 7-bolt engines are associated with big brakes; cars that have big brakes often have 7-bolt engines. Unfortunately, nobody seems to know if this method is reliable or not.

The AAQ's are a great resource.

Thanks for the relpies. Yes I knew the car has a 7 bolt (hence the reason for the ?).
Just heard everything good about the 6 bolts so I was just wondering.
I did search, but did not think about looking in the 1000 q&a.
