Whats the best summer tire.

I am looking for the best tire to use in summer. size I have right now are225/40/18. I'm leaning towards toyo proxes, but have also looked at nitto inzo, kuhmo ecsta, and pirrelli pzero

I am not sure if the Kumho Ecsta is the same as the Kumho Ecsta Supra, but if it is that tire is cheap but crap. Just a bargain basement tire to get you by but don't expect any performance out of it. If they're different tires entirely though disregard!

I haven't used the others so don't know anything about them.

I loved my Nitto NT05 for the dry as well as wet on the street and the track (lasting entire sessions and only slightly getting greasy at the end even on super hot 120+ track temp days). If not going on the track I also loved by Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs (haven't tried ZII) for great wet and dry as well (possibly better day to day street driving than the nt05) but not for the track as they get greasy pretty fast.

Do they make the direzza star specs anymore? I had them on my honda and they were an amazing tire. I also like the toyo proxes but the kumho ecstas did not impress me when I owned them.

They made the zii and now from what I've heard they are better. Could also try the RS-3s

BTW kumho are horrible tires. I will never own another tire from them

for what?

any tire in that size is going to be trash for drag and traction. you need something with a super soft sidewall to keep the drivetrain together if you drag race. something like the hoosier dot street radials would be best for a street tire

if your looking for another option, believe it or not all season/snow tires work best when it comes to street tires to get a good 60' on. AWD guys have got 1.6's with all season tires. they hook better than your typical high performance tire and the sidewalls flex more to prevent drivetrain shock

now if your looking for an autocross/turns tire the best thing out now is the bfg rivals. I have a set on my sti and they are increadable. I think they are better than the hankook rs3's and many others agree

in all honesty though get rid of the low profiles, they suck. they were cool in 1999 but times have changed. any tire in that size will perform about the same until you get into bfg rivals, rs3's, kumho v700 ect. and those 3 are only good for autocross. there are no tires for traction unless you are really trying to hook and spend money on proper tires for your fwd.

Seems like it all comes down to preference... Me personally I like Michelin pilot super sports. A friend of mine has toyo proxes on his vette and that thing hooks surprisingly well.

There are a couple of different levels of that tire. The LS or LX is the el cheapo version. And they are absolute crap. I should know, I have them.

I have the Michelin pilot super sports on my supercharged z06 and I still have plenty of tread life and I am by no means nice to that car at all ;-). Yes it's not a daily but the tires are only rated for 10k miles and I'm coming up on that mark and still have plenty of tread life. I think they will dry rot before they get too low on tread personally. They have been on the car for two years now mostly warm weather driving but tires have been driven in the cold plenty.

Perelli Pzero has an excellent tread wear rating. Tire Rack also had some great deals on Nitto tires.
