Transmission going out on a 2 lane Bridged Highway and having to wait on that highway to get towed, while 2 semi's past you at the same time praying you go dont get hit

nothings really gone wrong yet with my car (knock on wood!!) and i've had it for over a year. I guess there are just some good dsm's and some bad ones....i wonder if i got lucky:confused:

On the way home from getting it registered a big pickup truck towing a trailer tried to merge on top of me. I had to swerve into the oncoming lane of traffic, hit the brakes and then pull back in behind him. If I had known the problems I woulda had with the car later I would have let him total it out (I still had my old truck) and used the insurance $$ to buy a GST or GSX.

I've also blown the clutch at 11:30 at night out in the country, Got in a fight ewith my dad, moved out, then blew the transmission and any chance of living on my own. Drove 110 miles on the hottest day of the year with no coolant only to blow the engine 7 miles from home (3 miles from where the clutch went).

My old talon had a habit of eating the PS belt. One night on my way home with my g/f I legged it up a hill.. there was a screech, clunk, and a thud. The g/f got a little freaked out. I got pissed and really got on it. My house was 3 min away, by the time I got there the water temp was through the roof. I parked it (with steam pouring out the fenders) opened the garage door, jumped in the Formula and took off (with a confused g/f might I add) The next day the Talon was on the road in 15 min.

This is the same car that wouldn't run right for a WEEK after I washed it

I wouldnt call this the worst thing,.. its just a bunch of little things that went wrong.

...I bought my Tsi non-running for 1500,..all it needed was a ECU..Okay i buy the ecu..then drive it home(about 150 miles).. and it felt like ####.
...i notice the familiar clunking noise of a bad CV-joint,..so i go to midas for a qiuck fix...and they fix it...but about a couple days i notice smothing wrong with the cv joint...soo i go back and they fix it...but...(heres were it gets good)...wen the technician goes to drive my car out the shop it doesnt start...and makes a loud grinding noise... so i was like WTF! .... the mechanic takes off the T-Belt cover and it turns out the damn belt broke.. .. so i get it fixed there... since it was already in the shop... i go pick it up a few days later.. and it was running wayyy better than wen i bought it... i did all the free mods tune up.. fixed all the boost leaks.... soo i was running full boost.. it was all good.. ... Then that night my friends and I went out for sum late nite munchies.. and a couple of them heard that my car was running good... and they wanted to ride in 1G... soo here i go to start the car wen it bearly starts up.. then i go to mash on it and NO boost No power... ... i bearly make it home that nite...

and all this in 3 weeks...

...The TSi is now at Prostreet gettin the head re-built cause it turned out that i had a few bent valves and all my valve seals were bad...

but i still dont regret gettin my 1G.... the way i think of it,... its like a test that the DSM gods give us :dsm: owners... if you pull through get it running good and dont give up... the outcome will be that much sweeter....:thumb:

i bought it from a guy who fixed it up for his daughter. he put a new clutch and an engine and a paint job.

i drove it home. later that night i went out and on the way home the catalytic converter fell out from under my car! that was crazy. so i hung it up with coat hangers and drove home sounding like a drag car without a muffler (do they even have them?). then i was going to fix it myself but the seals and gaskets had rusted and the hanger wasnt there (the whole reason it fell). so i had to spend money to get it fixed. then the flexible part ahead of the cat. converter was ripped so i had to wait loger for a new one of those to come in! the i got my car back and it was runnig withOUT power. all the fuel injecters were clogged so i took it to my mechanic and got them cleaned. i changed the oil later that week. i had to go to Auto Zone 5 times to get the right filter size! and to top it all of my rearview mirror just fell of and the little plastic peices that make up the molding in the "trunk" are all coming off!! Ridiculous!!

-mike:dsm:

anhilated my drivetrain on the way to the shop... dealer F'd up doing my Xfer case recall, didn't put everything back together right. half shaft fell into tranny while i was going 60mph down interstate 64. clunk clunk crunch crunch snap grind crunch. was kinda cool seeing the speedo hit 150 in about .5 seconds when the axles broke though...

racing a damn civic si and not having enough fuel for the amount of boost i was running. this resulted in some nasty melted pistons and a broke wallet. plus the car still isn't running rightOMG

damn hondas;)

The irony that my first post on this board is about the worst thing happening to your DSM is amazing ;).

Bought my `92 talon and within 50 miles the transmission computer blew. Ontop of that, the valve seals went a week later, then the exhaust manifold cracked. In a two week span the entire car practically fell apart, and yet I wouldn't trade it for anything.

well let's see....

i had a stubborn clutch pedal and i was hoping it wasnt CW... the pedal would stick to the ground, stubborn shifting, i'd change gears and it would stay in the previous gear for a second before finally switching....

one nite while driving home from the beach at 3am, i smelt my clutch buring to hell, so i stopped to let it cool down. when i started again, i reved it to 3K in first and shifted to 2nd.... no change in RPM... put it in neutral and stopped. started again, rev'd it to 5K, shifted from first to FIFTH, and there was no RPM or speed difference. turns out my clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel were all melted, scratched, scored, burned, destroyed, etc. throwout bearing was crap as well, and the release cylinder was leaking. new drivetrain.

sunday before Xmas, my CEL came on and my exhaust sounded like a big block. my whole exhaust was shaking, and when i popped my hood, the whole engine was shaking.... the spark plug was bad, the wire was chewed up, the injector was clogged and the piston was blown all on cylinder three, no head damage though. still putting her back together.... hope to have it in sunday. ill post pics when im done :thumb:

Bought my car on a friday was excited so i took it out that night no probs.

Next night rolls around going out to friends house he wanted to see what a turbo model could do since he had a n/a. Pull outta his edition around 9pm. Bam cop pulls out behind me but i couldnt tell just yet so i hit 60 in the 40zone, pull up to a light that goes onto the high way i fail to competely stop then proceed to rail the throttle on the on ramp in no time i was hittin 100 but this cop was still crusing behind me without turning his lights on. To make it worse a car pulled out ahead of me so it seemed i was tailing him(wreckless drving charge). Try to get of at the next exit again after hiting 80. Thats when he finally hits me with the lights. So I pull over.....

5min of talking and It became clear i had 5 charges coming
35over
20over
2x)wreckless drving(one for 20mph over posted speed)
failure to come to a complete stop

Lucky me talked the cop outta everything except an 15 over ticket
he just laughed as he handed me the ticket and said .."and you've only had this car a little over 24hrs" then proceeded to laugh.

he just laughed as he handed me the ticket and said .."and you've only had this car a little over 24hrs" then proceeded to laugh
ouch, don't you just hate that :D

I slammed my car into a brick wall at nearly 120mph.
I have a deep respect for speed now that I nearly died.
The worst part of it all besides seeing my wrecked car in my backyard, is coming home the next day after the crash and finding my DSMtuners decals in the mail!

P.S
Always,Always,ALWAYS wear your seatbelt.:thumb:

after highway driving 130ish up to 135 on the speedo for like 5 miles, my temp gauge went up, and i got off the highway and checked it for problems, eventually turned out to be blown head gasket, and the guy I bought it from messed up on the head anyways, so I got a new cyl head and what not. cost $1400, not the cheapest thing for me.

bought a 90 laser FWD last sunday for 600 bucks for a buddy of mine.... drove it back home since he was a 'turbo 350 manual valve body in tha 327 chevy C10' kinda guy and didnt have the whole clutch thing down in dallas traffic.... passed by cops to the left, cops to the right... luckily we didnt get pulled over - i was getting on it quite a bit since i was missing my car. i got a call from my buddy the next day, he found weed and seed all over the floor and a dime bag under the seat.

Started researching about DSM's in October of 2002, finally set my mind on getting one. I finally managed to sell my Civic Hatchback for $3500. Sweet, time to roll. That day I called a guy who had a '91 Gold TSi AWD 5spd for sale with 120K miles, K&N, free mods, new clutch, and a spare head for $2900. Id been talking to him all week and I told him I had planned to buy the car later in the week. I called him, turns out he sold the car a meer 2 hours before I sold mine!!!! How shitty. K, Ill start looking for another one. So I went back to another DSM Id been looking at in Portland (a 2 hour drive away). It was a teal '93 GSX with 124K miles (its now my current car). So I called him, made sure he still had it, sure enough he did. Sweet, I have $3500 and thats what hes asking for!!! 2 hours later we arrive in Portland. Check out the car, its georgious. I test drive the car, get on it a lil' bit, push her a lil bit, its great I love it Ill take it. We do our duty and hit the road. Im in absolutely stoked and in pure euphoria it finally happened!!!. Me and my friend (has a '02 Turbo'd bug) play a little on the freeway so I can stretch her legs a bit. Nothing in the manner of pushing her to hard, just stretching her legs a bit. Its great, very nice. So then we cruise along for about 50 miles. Look down at the temp guage, shes a hot lil' girl. So I pull over while shes a steaming a storm up. Let her cool down, refill, were on our way again. Make it about 5 miles, shes up to red again. We had NO idea wtf was going on with this. After about 7 or 8, 5 mile stops to refill water and cool down, we decided to ditch my car in the Kelso Police station parking lot so well come back tomorrow. Come down with my other friend the next morning at 8am. Start her up get going make it about 20 miles, she started doing it again. We went 100 miles with doing the 5 mile stop to refill gig. It was 10 at night after we FINALLY made it back to Tacoma. We stopped once again to fill and cool off, she was REALLY hot this time. She was dead, notta, capish. Deader than a doornail. Had her towed back to the house. I was pretty pissed to say the least. Week later I had her towed up to a reputable DSM mechanic to asses the damage. Turns out the head gasket blew, there was ALOT of water in the oilpan, the head seized up, and the crank would hardly turn over with 2 hands. Called the owner to get reciepts and he sent up about $2500 worth in reciepts. If your in the Portland, OR area, and need motor work done, DO NOT go to Agape Motors Inc. They are the ones who replaced the head, radiator and hose, headgasket, EVERYTHING. And if something gets fawked up, its YOUR ass, not theirs.

Well, cars been at the mechanic since. Since the incident, Ive purchase a 6 bolt bottom end (60K miles, replaces bearings and rings), brand new head, and an ACT 2600 clutch for the mechanic to install. Looks like I may FINALLY get the work done in 2 weeks since money has been hard to come by, its taken this long. Got a $1K repair bill to cover and income tax will go to that as soon as it comes. Thank god. So Ill pretty much be starting complately fresh when I get the car back. Crappy luck huh? :(

Ok, I want to see if I have anyone beat. Owned 2 Eclipses(A Red 95 Gs, and a Silver 99 Rs) first one like the 5th day I had it the clutch cable broke on me so I had to drive the 65mph highway stuck in first gear, car got towed, walked for a week, new years eve got trashed, got stupid, hit a freakin parked car, drove round a while with a banged up rear passenger side quarter panel, finally got the money (Long long time considering i have a part time job+college), one more week without it. Made it look brand new. Got it out of the shop, and totalled it the same night racing a acura integra, and all but killed myself. Learned my lesson got a newer eclipse, lost my licence for 6 months , plus kinda waited patiently for it (my licence) to be reinstated, but slowly and slowly modded it to be better then before, so I lowered it the wrong way, blew all 4 struts (KYB's-non adjustable), cracked my aftermarket Venom bumber, blew a drivers side half shaft, broke the outside drivers handle, ruined $300.00 tires, steering went out and I dinged my 17 inch Enkei Shogun rims on the curb, broke the shifter weld, lots and lots of fun, my friend looks at me and says go honda, I look and him and reply with no words just a abrupt smack in the head and a look of disgust. LoL, i'm a bitter old man trapped in a 21 year old body. Moral of the story......Ebay is the devil, when you say I got it on ebay 9 times outta 10 you got sc*ewed :dsm: =still the way to go

Not my DSM, but one day I parked my 96 Prelude on my driveway to wash it. While I was washing it, a bunch of pigeons flew up onto the the roof of my house. I hated the pigeons because they always took craps on my windshield. So i picked up a rock, threw it up to the 2nd story of my house to scare the birds away. The rock bounced off my house, fell back down landing on the hood of my car. It left a nice dent in the hood.

I was really pissed, but the next week I rolled the car 6 times down a mountain. I forgot all about the dent.

It was twisty mountain roads in the middle of the night. I was following a bunch of guys and we were taking them pretty fast. Going downhill at about 40 MPH, the road curved sharply to the right. My right wheels caught some gravel at the start of the curve, and my rear slid out. The car did a 180, launched up a dirt ramp 5 feet into the air, smashed into a tree, then rolled down the mountain. It must have been flipping for nearly 20 seconds. Every time if flipped I was sure I was going to die. Branches and logs were hitting me in the face. I was saying to my passenger the whole time, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry..." All the windows blew out, and the roof collapsed on my head. The airbags had deployed after car hit the first tree, and were useless now. Finally the car stopped rolling. I came to my senses. It was still pitch black and I couldn't see shit. I asked my friend if he was okay. He said "Yeah, let's get out of here." I told him not to undo his seatbelt, and to stay still. If the car started rolling again we'd both be dead. The car was on it's SIDE and unsteady. He climbed up through the passenger's side window, and I followed. We somehow managed to climb our way up the mountain. Our friends were shouting for us at the top, and shining flashlights down to us. When we finally reached the top, my friend was in shock and shaking like crazy. I was okay, but I had lots of cuts and blood was pouring down from my head. My entire sweatshirt was soaked with blood. Ambulances came and they strapped us both down to stretchers. We went to the hospital to get cleaned up, and we were let out later that morning. A few stitches later and I was good as new. I've got the scars to remember it, though. My friend walked away amazingly with nothing but scratches. The cops who saw the wreck couldn't figure out how we lived...

Here's a good shot showing how steep the mountain was. Notice my front bumper lying there..

OMG dude, you're lucky, I've seen people die in cars with less damage. Those are some awesome pictures though.

Ok I traded my 2nd gen GS for a 93' TSI AWD about a month ago. I had to drive 4 hours to southern IL. Got down there drove the other car around, the clutch is squealing a bit, but besides that it's all good. So, we make the trade, and i start driving home. Less than 2 hours later I stop at a rest area to hit the head, get back in the car, it won't go into gear. Then I finally get it moving halfway down the entrance ramp and it cuts out. I tried to start it a few times and the battery is dead. I get a jump from someone at the rest stop, right as I get it started a cop pulls in behind me and starts asking questions(NO TAGS) The car still doesn't go into gear. So I call AAA to have my car towed, I have to bribe the driver to just drive me a hundred miles and drop me off. Then I call AAA again from that location and they take me home( only another 60-70 miles) So I get the car up the next day, thinking the clutch pedal needs adjusting, that's what I was told was the reason for the clutch squeal. After about 2 weeks of having my car up in the air, bleeding, adjusting, replacing the clutch slave and master cylinders, still no go. So I have the car towed to a shop, they call me the next day saying I need a new clutch kit. I get it, drop it off at the shop. Two days later they call saying the transmission and transfercase went to sh1t. So now I am going to have to drive another 4 hours to Iowa to get a transmission(pretty good deal). Hopefully I can get more than 2 hours of driving in my second month of ownership.

Yeah well I think I have everyone beat. I got a '93 GSX, put the SBR long block with a 16g turbo. Took it to the body shop to have a paint job done. Luckily the paint came out good. When the guy was pulling the car out of the bay he hit the garage door. Broke the back window and beat up the hatch pretty bad. He fixed the hatch and everything looked good about 3 weeks later. I am taking the car home and some fat a** cowboy rearends me while I am stopped at a intersection and totals the car. The car has to be towed. While at the tow truck lot, someone breaks into in and steals the system and the motor!!! Steals the damn motor. The insurance pays for the car, I still loose some money and still my car never goes home from the body shop. The motor I bought from SBR had 29 miles on it and it also never went to my house. Beat that. Later.
