Howdy, first time poster here
I've got a chance to get a good deal on my buddy's car that supposedly got some bent valves. I was curious whats the chance of 'just' having bent valves and not having them screw up the valve guides?
I was with him when it died, we were in second gear, lugging the engine right after going around a corner. The motor acted like it died, made some ticking noises(lifters? probably the valves...) and shut off, now it won't start. The tensioner is kinda screwy looking, I'm thinking there's a slim chance that maybe one of the gears slipped a little so that the valve timing in relation to each other is funky and not allowing the motor to build compression.
I was also curious about whats involved in a head swap on the car assuming I can't just put new valves in, and lap them. What parts would I need to get it done in an afternoon? I'm thinking headset, turbo gaskets, timing belts and head bolts/studs? I'd probably do spark plugs at the same time and all that.
Head gasket
HS9627PT- $101.99
Includes
head gasket water outlet throttle body EGR timing cover seal, dizzy o ring, spark plugs gaskets intake, thermostat exhaust
Timing Belts
CD167- $19.99
CD168- $15.99
Valve Stem Seals
SS70359- $32.99
Tensioners
? How many are there?
I've got alot of engine building experience, but I need some specifics on head interchange. Is there any difference between the turbo and non turbo heads like valves, valve seats, compression ratios, etc?
