whats better a o2 housing that is recirculated or realesed to atmosphere? and whats a good cheap one that bolt up to my stock 1g with apexi n1 dp?

Neither is really better, just up to you whether or not you want the extra noise from a dump. If they're both tubular and the same size, the dump shouldn't make a huge difference. They both will significantly reduce any boost creep you have. Megan Racing and SSAC both make cheap, SS, good quality O2 housings.
I'm personally running an SSAC atmospheric dump O2 housing and love it.

Well, i just got my dumped o2 housing (released to atmosphere) installed and i got it for $80. it was a direct fit. but for me, i pick the dumped to atmosphere o2 housing. (sound really cool when it hits boost):D

I agree with Defiant, if you get stoped with that it will be a fat ticket. its one thing to run no cat but to have it open o2 is just going to get you stoped, and you live in CA. I wouldn't recomend it.

If you get the o2 with the atmosphere dump your turbo setup is less likely to boost creep and spike. I have a ported 7cm housing 16g with a 34mm flapper and a stainless o2 with atmosphere dump and I have 0 problems with creep or spike, 7 or 10 psi solid...its really nice. Most of this I attributed to the open o2 dump because there is no restriction getting rid of exhaust gases.

I didn't like the sound at first but now I love it, when your boosting with a dumped o2 you know it even at partial throttle. Its really not that loud, and if it bugs you then just route a flexible pipe outside of the car and it gets quiter because of the increased piping length.

.

SSAC with good quality in the same sentance. That made me laugh (it could be true, but I still found it funny). Whats their new current seller name on ebay?

7-10 psi on a 16g is not tha much i wouldn't expect it to creep maybe once you get up to 17-21 psi than i would see there being more of an issue, not saying that it doesn't help but he is still in CA. even if its routed outside its till going to be heard by the wrong people. Im running a 14b at 15 psi with stock o2 housing and non ported 2g exhaust manifold and have no creep issues

what site did you get your housing from ebay? i was looking at this rite here is it pretty much the same besides that this one is recirculated?

Keyword... 14B.
And gsxeclipse97, creep doesnt happen because you turn the boost up.
Creep just means your flowing more exhaust than the w.g. can deal with.
For instance, I had my boost controller set at 15psi... 1st and 2nd gear would hold that.
But 3rd and up my evo3 16g open dp/ evo3 02housing set up would have minor boost creep; creeping to 17psi... (Wouldnt go past 17 though )... When i turned the boost to 20, it holds 20 in all gears... Why because the boost creep only went to 17 psi, and the amount of exhaust your waste gate can flow doesnt change just because you turned the boost up. Therefore I ONLy have boost creep when I run under 17psi... Get me...?
I only have minor creep issues though, most ppl with boost creep end up creeping to 20psi zones unfortuantly.

O2 dump will draw too much unnessecary attention as already mentioned.
I had a friend who ran one on his gsx. Was mean sounding, but I didnt see any benefit to it for a streetcar.
I def think in Cali would be one of the worse states to run a 02 dump.
Just get a punishment racing tubular recirculated o2, or a evo3 or ported 2g and be
done with it...

Im slightly confused. why would you creep under 17 but not over if you are pushing more exhaust throuh the same amount of space?
In it's simplest terms:

More boost = less wastegate flow, more turbine flow.

Less boost = more wastegate flow, less turbine flow.

Looking at fluid flow theory the atmospheric dumped o2 housing would give the best performance. For maximum pressure drop across the turbine, which is good, there needs to be ideally no backpressure on the exit of the turbine housing. Dumping the exhaust gas to the atmosphere eliminates the turbulence, which causes more back pressure, created if it is recirculated back into the o2 housing. However if recirculation is required/wanted the best recirculated o2 housings will bring the wastegate tube smoothly into the main flow. A great example of this is the one made by Straight Line Specialties (http://store.straightlinespecialties.com//product_info.php?cPath=78_93&products_id=250).

The straightline specialties o2 is sooooo nice. I will eventually move to that one when I get a better flowing exhaust manifold and a rebuild.

1gengsxz3: That is the same style I have, its held up great for me the past 3 months and has nice thick flanges and looks fantastic. Only a few notes...don't use the gaskets they give you because they are made from recycled soda cans and cardboard which will burnup and cause leaks. Also you need to dremel the bolt holes out so that the flange fits onto the turbine housing exhaust studs. Remember to use new studs/bolts if possible and antiseize to put things back together.

I am not responsible if you get a fine for having this in CA, I am just saying that this is what I have and it works well for me.

So if you have to customize the holes for it to line up are you saying it's not worth the hassle? Or get one from punishment racing?

if you want to save money, then get the ebay o2 housing and use a dremel to make those holes a little bigger. but if you want to spend the money then go for the expensive one that will bolt right up. getting the ebay ones are worth the troble. after everything is on, then its worth it.
