What would cause the knock?

Ok, I had just replaced my turbo and the engine wasnt running right...

now what im afraid of is, (ive never admitted this to anyone yet)

when the turbo blew i was maaaaad pissed, I threw the car in neutral and hammered the gas to WOT...

anyways, when the turbo blew the car wasnt running right cuz I couldnt get the thing to go over 5k when I did that...

what all would cause the idle to be restricted below 5k? The car also topped out around 90 after i got the turbo put in, everyone here knows thats not right...

I know i shouldnt have railed on the engine but yeah, pissed reflex.

Would a simple Engine Rebuild fix this you think? And how much those usually run? (Just parts not labor)

Oh..

Also when i fixed turbo and tried turning it on...

my exhaust had no noise at all, my exhaust isnt ricer loud, but its up there, When I fixed the turbo the car sounded quieter than my Jimmy :/

it sounds like the title and the body of your thread are asking two different questions.
have you tried replacing spark plugs and wires? that makes a huge difference in how the car runs; my car would misfire around 6k until i put some new plugs and wires in

What happened was...

when my turbo blew i was pissed, threw the car in neutral and slammed the car WOT, even then it only revved to like 6k at the most.

I replaced the turbo and i thought it was fixed. wrong.

the car was only revving to like 5k max and i couldnt get it going faster than 80-90...

Anyways. Then After about 3 days of trying to fix it (thinking it was a boost leak or an exhaust leak)

then out of no where the car just bogged out and died while i was driving...


When i turned it over again it had a knock, i shut it off and didnt touch it since...

My question is.....

I havent had a chance toh ave a mechanic look at it yet, and i know something like this can be a chance for a mechanic to run you MAD cash (i dont know engines, i cant touch them)


What do you think would have caused the knock and where should I have a mechanic look first?

Probably a damaged rod bearing, possibly a damaged balance shaft bearing. Either way, engine rebuild time.

may another DSM rest in peices. this happened to my buddy ( i think , it was hard to follow) and what defiant said, balance shaft bearing.

I want to fix it, I just dont know how to go about it or where to start...

should I have a mechanic inspect it ? Or just straight up order a rebuild?

Also what kinda of "rebuild" kit parts are needed? I tried Googling DSM Rebuild kit ,etc, and it didnt turn anything out.


Any help would be awesome, Nov 5th was my bday and I have some extra money laying around right now that could get repairs started atleast.

If you dont know, ive been in the army/iraq for the last 5 years and unable to attend to my DSM.....

Im currently in Iraq right now and hellbent on getting my DSM fixed, whether rebuild or engine swap.......


First off, going off Defiants info that its either a Rob Bearing or Balance Shaft Bearing......

What kind of rebuild kit would i need to order? My father in law is a pretty good mechanic and hopefully he will be able to do a rebuild or if worse case scenario arises, ill have to find a new engine and he can do the swap.

ive had my engine rebuilt and 2 weeks later , my engine started knocking,, its an ugly knock i tell you..it was main bearings, what i did was bought a brand new 4g63 (6bolt) engine streight out of the factory... and just eliminated the problem ...

Dang, this thread is five years old and you STILL haven't found an engine rebuild kit?
Sell the car. For the cost of a decent rebuild kit you could buy a running Talon when you get back home.

Hahahah yeah, 5 years still no running Talon.....

Last deployment I told my mom "hey i have 5k in the bank, FIND SOMEONE WHO WILL FIX IT!"

And the only thing she found was a guy who wanted 1k in labor and 2k for a 130k mile engine....

If i was there in person when that guy quoted her i would have punched him in the face....



Anyhow, Iraq is alot different now so i have a little more time to sorta micro-manage this process this time around .

I thought about selling it, and if there was a decent priced GSX or TSI in my area I would ###### do it, someone offered me 1.5k for the car, which would give me enough to pick p a decent TSi if there were any in the area......the closest thing ive seen was a 97 TSI AWD......the guy wanted 7500 .........no mods other than sound system and he painted it Sunburnt Orange, 150k miles on it. Oh wait, it had a mod! RIMZ!...... WTF

I guess hes smart cause he didnt put an email response option on his craigslist ad or he would have gotten....

" Hey im interested in your talon, let me know when you realize blue book is 3k and you have no mods on that car to justify +4k........"
