420A What to replace when installing new engine

I am getting a freshly built motor with zero miles to drop in my car. What should I replace?

When I put in my first zero mile engine I replaced everything I could since the car already had 130k on it. For example: new alternator, starter things like that.

Steering rack, front subframe bushings, anything rubber or otherwise perishable that is simple to get to with the engine out of the bay, but a nightmare with the engine in.

It'd be a nice time to upgrade to Poly motor mounts. The rear one is very hard to get to once the motor is in. Check the condition of the CV boots on the axles too, b/c it would also be a convenient time to replace your axles if you needed to.

Thank you for all the replies. They are very helpful. I was also wondering about the break in for the motor. How do I properly break it in?

You are going to get tons of different answers for that question. It’s a highly debated topic if you begin to research it.

Some say baby it for so many miles. Some say a variety of driving condition for so many miles.

Personally I prefer the motoman break in method. Give it a good read.

It would be worth talking to whoever built the engine (if it wasn’t you) to see what they recommend.
