what to look for when getting a turbo

hey my friend has like 4 trbos laying around. and he said he has a 20g for my car and because were friends he'll let it go for real cheap. now i was wondering ### to look for when inspecting it? and what is the serial number for a mitsu 20g and a ebay one? becasue i dont want that ebay crap. thanks guys

What's real cheap? And look for shaft play of the turbine wheel, a little up and down/side to side isn't bad, but any in/out is bad. This might help a little - DSM: Top Ten FAQ

Take apart the turbo (meaning take off the compresser and exhaust housings)

Shouldnt be hard to do, its either going to be held down by bolts or clamps

Maker sure the blades arent chipped and that the wheel spins freely.
Check for oil leaks around.
And the obvious shaft play.

49178 = TD05H
49179 = TD06/06H

I got this after a fast search, but I am leaving for work so I will leave the rest to you. Just search the forums and see what you come up with. There is tons of info on here.

20G's do not display a serial number like the 14B/16G turbos, although the part number 49179-54900 is often diplayed on the front of the cover.
