I bought my eclipse gst 3 months ago, the guy screwed me over and said everything was fine, i had it for awhile i noticed it was burning oil really bad and the turbo was going out. one day i downshifted into third gear and my engine basically fell apart. although i still could drive it home and it does still run (very badly with a massive tick/knock) the mechanic said that the engine is shot and i need a through rebuild or just a new engine. I don't have the patience or the money for either of those so i just want to cut my losses and be done with this nightmare. I'm asking for anybodies opinion on what to do, how much should i advertise it on craigslist?

You could probably get around 500-800 for it to the rite person. Picked up my 91 gsx for 600$ with bent valves. But if it was me I would just rebuild the motor. You can get junkyard parts cheep and the 4g63 is a relatively easy motor to work on. You should find out what exactly is wrong with it. A motor is never 100% Shot , Unless it caught fire and burnt to the ground. You can find the parts you need and use the Good parts off the old 4g63. like the head intake alternator ext.
Save some money.

4g63 is still rebuildable after a fire actually ( been there done that LOL )

Personally if the shortblock is all the needs work you'll end up better off just finding some one doing a partout and buy the short block and inspect the head. grab a 20g and keep the boost low ( 20g is bigger and cheaper than a 16g these days )

OR

Part it out

all depends on how much you bought it for honestly.

honestly i would love to rebuild it but there is no way i am mechanically inclined enough to do it, and i feel like paying somebody to do it would be major bucks.

Well Ill say that rebuilding it will take a lot of time and $$$! I'm a barley finishing my rebuild and it was a long tough journey (first ever build on a car) Sometimes I wish I would of just shelled out the cash to have it put together! Its a lot less hassle thats for sure!

It shouldn't take that much money for a stock rebuild. I would atleast get a shop to put arp rod bolts in it. The guys that built the engine for my chevelle charge 100$ for assembly. I think that's a pretty good price for professionals. You might want to find a trustworthy shop around you. I would do research on here. Try to learn as much as you can. These are one of the easiest engines I have worked on.
