I just got a 1990 talon shell and I have a vr4 motor on the way...i have 2k extra to play with what mods do you think i should go for? :talon:

about how fast do you want to go in the long run? id say if you want 12s just get on the trader and get a 16g, 550s, a clutch (new), fuel pump, and either some hard intercooler pipes or a small front mount setup. oh yeah and a water injection kit:) youd be really happy with that setup.i might have forgotten some little shit (plug wires etc)

wait a second here, are you planning on putting the VR4 motor into the talon shell? If so, you had better have more than 2k to play with....and a 3000gt, cuz that motor ain't fittin' in that talon. :shhh:

about how much boost do you think i can safely run with a evo 16g 550cc injectors 255lph fuel pump and the intercooler setup that peregrine is talking about

With the 255lph FP you're going to want an AFPR and management (such as an S-AFC) after all that you could run 18psi fine.

obviously thats a typo LOL but yeah thats the motor im getting that same type with the front mount. if you guys know of anyone needing 1.8 liter parts tell them to email me so i can get some more money for this soon to be beast LOL :talon: :thumb:

ill have to take a look for you when i get it im not getting that exact one mine is coming from cali i think jazzprosports i had my friends order it for me but yeah i will let you know when it comes in.

one other thing i wanna put a new timing belt and water pump on the motor be4 i drop in it ( just so i know I wont have to worry about ti later on) how are those kevlar timing belts...they worth the extra few bucks???

yeah i know thats what i meant by a typo they dont have dist's LOL how are those c.o.p setups u see on ebay....if anyone has one please share goods/bads about em

cop setups are great ... never heard anything about the ebay ones either way though. As far as ignition goes though, for 90% of dsmers you can get away with stock coilpacks and just get some different plugs and maybe wires.

yeah they have em on ebay if u search 4g63....but yeah i planned on getting ngk wires and the ngk bpr7's the degree colder plugs...i was just curious if those cop setups they got on ebay are crap

You have everyone telling you to go with "bigger turbo's, etc..." which is common b/c when a person thinks Turbo DSM, the first thing that comes to their mind is BIGGER TURBO. I had a small 16 on my car with just a catback exhaust and my car ran better and faster when I had a full 2 1/2 inch to 3 inch exhaust running with the 14b. If I were you (and I think alot more people would agree with me here), I would go with the basics first that will help support a bigger turbo later. Some of these mods include a full 2 1/2 inch exhaust system or 3" if you plan on getting alot of power later, bigger exhaust manifold ( 2g or Evo or the new SlowBoy manifold which is bigger than the evo and looks real nice), evo o2 housing, boost gauge, boost controller, fuel pump, upper intercooler piping, etc... and all these mods fit in around your 2k limit...it's all about freeing up the restrictive parts of your car first ( exhaust/intake) so you can make hp when you start selecting a bigger turbo. This site has a really nice stage 1 setup list of parts you can go from and is what I would recommend doing.

Tottaly agree. Get all the supporting mods IE ignition beef up your IC system full exhaust fuel mods and then slap the bigger turbo on(i like the ported big16g)and see maximam performance from the turbo upgrade this way. And if properly tuned this could set you in 12's.
