Ok so i read for days trying to figure out the best offset for rims and tires and I dont understand how ppl go wider.

I bought a set of 17x7 advan rims with a hancook 235 45 17 on them.
My car is pretty low, like top of the tire a tiny bit lower then rear fender lip.

These BARELY fit in the wheel well without rubbing. If the car hits any big bumps i think it will rub the inner lip which will require fender rolling, as well as i may have to give the inner control arm a grind cause i can barely get a piece of cardboard in between it and the sidewall of the tire.

What did i do wrong. I thought 40mm was the magic number for 2G's

Is it because the tires should be on wider rims? I dunno... What are your thoughts? Am i just that slammed?

Also note i had 225 45 18's on last year with 40mm offset and they cleared no issue.

If your car sits that low you shouldn't be hitting any "big bumps" anyways. I have 235/45 17 tires on my 17x8 rims and I had to roll my inner lip inside the rear wheel wells. The fronts never rubbed one bit. I forget what offset I have but I can check my rims before I put them back on my car tonight and get back to you.

ya let me know, the fronts look fine, its just the rear...and i live in northwestern ontario canada...we have potholes the size of small trucks LOL

i am stock height but running evo 8-9 wheels with 235-45-17 and there is no issue

I also run 245/45/17s on 38mm offset 17*8" rims with no rubbing and I am lowered on K sports.

I ran the +40 thinking this would be the best, and i dont think i could have gotten away with anything more offset. I had to roll my rear fender lips to give enough clearance...now i am lowered a lot...starting to tuck tire.

It fits tho...very close to the spindle on the inside like half cm, and with the fenders rolled i have a lot more room now.

didnt think a 235 would have a problem after i hear of ppl running 235 40's and 245 40's...

For completeness' sake, it needs to be mentioned in this thread that putting 235s on a 7" wheel is highly sub-optimal.

ps. I'm trying to teach my kids to not use the word "sucks"; I am teaching them to use "sub-optimal," instead; I am also practicing what I preach

its sounds like your problem is you are way too low, can you post pics of your car with the new setup?

also you should have ran a 225/45 tire on that size wheel

I'm running 17x8 +38....EVO 9 wheels with dunlop Sport Maxx TT's 245/40 ZR17 with no rubbing in front and slight rubbing in the rear on large bumps or dips. I have Tein type flex with a little bit more than 1 finger space between the rear fender and the tire. I will raise the rear shortly and should have no rubbing at all.

i know im late on the subject, but i just found it; so ima say something LOL. main problem here is the wheels not the drop or the tires. first off running 235's on a 7" wheel is useless, you might as well have put a 205 on there p.s. it'll look the same and there cheaper. (2) the offset somunds like it'll give you clearance from the fender but on a 2g going wider you want to get away from the spindel, you'll prob rub inside if you went to a 245. (3) theres no such thing as too low:sneaky: recently i tried some 245/50r-16 while being as low as i could possibly go. i took a pos sleeve over kit off a civic and slaped it on which left my transmission/auto an inch of the ground! rode this way for awhile till i bought new tires, anyways i figured my stock struts were no bueno so i replaced and no more rubbing.
if you do still have the same tire and still rubbing might wanna look into a stiffer setup.

Im running 245/50/17 on a +32mm offset with -1.5 degrees of camber in the front. -1.7 in the back. Nothing rubs. If I drop more than 1 and 3/8ths inch I will have to roll my fenders, or run more camber, I am allready pushing the limits of camber for street use / tire longevity.

Ummmmmmmm... if there's space, then it won't rub- no grinding needed.
