well iwas having a problem with car mifiring at idle ,so i check compression,\ and this is what i got
cylinder
1=120
2=150
3=175
4=150
so i think im going to have to rebuild motor,the question is
i call a shop that rebuilds motor and they told me it would be $900 to rebuild whole motor,what do they do?do they check rings,valves,piston,etc?
or what should i do?
macanic is probably going to charge me $300 to remove & replace motor

Oh. Well they will pretty much do what you ask them to. If you find a jackass though they will try to run circles around you and only do half the work.

If it's to be rebuilt they will put new rings on and bearings in it. For the head they will probably not do anything unless you tell them to unless there is something wrong with it for some reason.

i just want to motor to last at least 2 years more after rebuid.im going to keep car stock boost ,what do u reccomend to get done for it to last?

Just tell the shop to rebuild the bottom end. And have the head checked out. If it is ok just have them mill it. And you should be good. You will have to have new rings, the cylinders will need to be honed, and it wll need new bearing for the rods and mains. And you should be good. If it is a reputable shop they will get you setup good. Just use all OEM parts and you will have a golden stock engine that should last you as long as you treat it good.

SO

Piston rings
Cylinders need to be honed
Rod bearings
Main Bearings
All the gaskets and seals should be replaced
New Head Gasket
Head inspected and milled

I think that's about it

If anyone can think of anything else the chime in
